Short Story: White man assaults my partner out of blue inside the bar - assailant and his group are kicked out. A minute later my group is kicked out for having been assaulted and forced onto the street where the assailants were.
Long Story: My partner, two friends, and I entered the bar and felt relatively welcome off the bat. Got our drinks and proceeded to one of the pillars toward the entrance and sat at bar stools in a completely unoccupied section.
While minding our own business, an amped up older white man approaches my partner in an aggressive way and tells him that he has to move because he had taken his seat. When my partner said that he would not be moving because this entire section was empty, the man proceeded to shove my partner and force his way into the space that we just settled in. He then looked at all of us and said “what are you gonna do about it, huh?” This man clearly was on something other than alcohol and his friend group at the next table was silent while he assaulted us. I then looked at his two friends and asked if they were okay with their friend assaulting us out of the blue and the friends looked astonished that I was holding them accountable for their friend.
Amidst the action of this man yelling at us and our group standing up for ourselves, a bar keep approached us and asked what happened. I told him this man just assaulted my partner and the man claimed we stole his seat. The bar keep recognized the situation and decided to kick out the group of men. They gave us the middle finger and continued to sneer at us while they closed their tab. About a minute later we were told we also needed to leave as it’s policy for both parties of a conflict to be kicked out. I stated we just purchased these drinks and were then immediately assaulted so we’d need a refund. Amidst this new conflict with the bar keep, the original men were being escorted out and put their fists up at us as they exited. So I stated to the bar keep “you realize that you’re kicking us out alongside men who already assaulted us and then put their fists up at us as they walked out? Is this a coordinated effort to continue an attack on us?” And they said they did not care and that we needed to leave without a refund. We left and rushed away in an attempt to not be jumped by the original men who assaulted my partner.
Wild experience and no person of color should frequent this...
Read moremy third time at George’s bar here on Montrose and it unfortunately has been the wrong place I have ever spent my money on. Taylor has been an amazing bartender. He always took care of me & a great guy, but on the other hand, Danny, the other bartender gets way too intoxicated on the job so from there he starts asking for money, that’s not there . for example.. I always paid cash no matter on my tabs so i don’t have to worry about any other drinks i didn’t order & i can come & go as i please. when i would inquire about all the cool shots danny will make as i relaxed by the corner, he’ll tell me! nice to know what everybody at the bar likes! I’ve been pretty generous with double tipping the tab ($9 tito’s + watermelon redbull vodka + $5) which is well over 40% tip.! but then the leftover shots (lemon drops) he’ll slide me on the side & say it’s on him & to enjoy myself. took them. then as i was saying my goodbyes & respects to the team Danny the bartender starts demanding i owe him for drinks that he claimed was on him & other stuff i never ordered. money turned that man evil on 3/20/24. whatever the guy is going through, I generally hope he is going to be better because this is not the atmosphere I totally expected from a bar that I thought was...
Read moreBy far my favorite gay bar in Montrose. No matter the time of day (7am-2am), the place is always happening. George has an eclectic clientele. Daytime, it’s more retirees and people working from their laptops. Happy hour is more professionals getting off work, and the night time can be a mix of ages and races. I will say the consistency of the crowd is that it’s mostly a 30+ crowd. Although that’s not to say there aren’t young chickens around. People in there 20’s do frequent, but it is mostly a more mature crowd. Game days can get pretty packed. It’s the best place to watch the Astros. They have multiple tvs inside and on the patio. The service is always good. I’ve been a regular here since my early 20’s, and the staff has hardly changed. Saturday nights with Danny and Crystal are so much fun. Also love Monday happy hour with Ryan. Sometimes I slip in to grab a beer from David. Boris always makes a mean Bloody Mary to cure even the worst of my hangovers. And Taylor on Tuesday is always a sweetheart. This bar feels like a home and I’m so glad to have this place to feel safe...
