Jay Bhavani — Restaurant in Houston

This is, without a doubt, the worst food I’ve had in the Houston MG District.

The paneer butter masala is excessively greasy, swimming in butter and oil, while the chole masala was a complete disappointment—arguably the worst I’ve ever tasted. Even plain cooked rice mixed with raw vegetables and spices would be more flavorful than any of their Chinese dishes.

The naan was saggy and tasteless—hard to believe an Indian restaurant could get something as simple as naan so wrong.

On the positive side, the service was decent. The staff, mostly college students, were working hard, so I can’t fault them for that.

That said, the prices feel steep compared to other similar restaurants in the area.

Jay Bhavani is a haven for lovers of authentic Ahmedabad-style Vadapav. During my visit in the last week of April 2024, I had the pleasure of indulging in their Butter Cheese Vadapav, which was undoubtedly the best I've tasted outside of India. Alongside this culinary delight, I also sampled their Paneer Roll and Egg Paplet, both of which were equally delicious.

The restaurant shares its space with Eggmania, offering options for both vegetarians and eggetarians. This dual concept ensures that everyone can find something to savor. The ambience of Jay Bhavani is inviting, providing a comfortable setting to enjoy their flavorful offerings.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience here was very frustrating. My family and I waited well over an hour for my food, and each time we asked the servers, they reassured us it would be “just 5 more minutes.” Unfortunately, those 5 minutes turned into nearly 2 hours, and my meal still hadn’t arrived while we were dining in. Since it was getting late, we asked to have it packed to go, but even then the order ended up being incorrect.
