This review is based on my first and probably the last visit to this place.

We tried Ragdapatis, Chole Bhature, and Mix Pakora.

FOOD 😐

The mix Pakora dish with chutney, unfortunately, was a pretty mediocre experience. Pakora didn't have much taste in them, and the chutney was disappointing. It was much too thin and lacked the bold flavor I was expecting. The texture was watery and didn't provide the satisfying contrast to the pakoras that I was hoping for. Overall, the dish was just okay, nothing too special or exciting, and the lackluster chutney brought the whole experience down a notch.

Ragdapati's Patis dish was an absolute delight for anyone who loves Indian street food. This dish was a heavenly combination of ragda, which is made in a spicy gravy, and crispy deep-fried patties made from mashed potatoes. The dish is then topped with sweet and tangy chutneys, finely chopped onions, and fresh coriander leaves, which add a burst of freshness to the dish. The patties were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, while the ragda was flavorful and spicy, with just the right amount of heat. The combination of all the ingredients resulted in a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

While the Chole Bhature wasn't terrible, it was definitely a mediocre experience. The Chole, which is made from chickpeas cooked in a spicy gravy, lacked the depth and complexity of flavors that I was expecting. The Bhature, which is a deep-fried bread, was decent, but not as fluffy and flavorful as I have had at other places. Overall, the dish was just okay, nothing too special or memorable, and I felt that it could have been improved with more attention to the seasoning and preparation.

CUSOTMER SERVICES 🤫

When I approached the ordering counter, the lady provided me with information on vegan options, which I appreciated. However, I was disappointed with the level of attention paid to my specific food requirements, as she seemed more focused on rushing me through the ordering process. While I understand that there were people waiting in line behind me, I felt that the overall experience was rushed and impersonal. As a result, I felt unsatisfied and unlikely to return to the restaurant in the future.

GOOD STUFF ☺️

After having discovered chaat for myself at another restaurant, Shiv Sagar was recommended to me by a friend who is more familiar with the cuisine.

Shiv Sager is located in a plaza with many other businesses and the parking lot was packed on a Friday evening. The inside of the restaurant was no different. As I walked in I was greeted by the hustle and bustle of a busy staff and clientele. Everything is fast paced here. There was a long line at the counter to order but it was moving fast. The menu is vast and it can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with the cuisine or are unsure of what you want. There is a large menu posted in the wall behind the counter to look at as you wait but there are also menus that you can grab and look at. Just be ready to order something when you get to the front of the line because it moves quickly.

Never one to let fear of the unknown stop me, I dove right in and started ordering whatever came to mind. Was it the best strategy? Maybe not but until I can return with either a friend who knows the menu or I do more research on my own, it will do.

I ordered the 3 piece Dosa, Manchurian, Frankies, Aloo Tiki Chole and Salt Lassi to begin with.

After you order, you can take your seat and they will call you to pick up your food further down the counter on the left. Everything comes out separately, so you will make multiple trips. The samosas came out first. They were delicious. I really liked the aloo tiki chile as well. The salt lassi was very tasty too. The Manchurian was okay and the Frankies did not stand out to me. I would probably order everything but the Manchurian and Frankies again. As I was sitting there eating, I started noticing that a lot of people were eating a particular dish, so I got up and asked the lady at the pick up counter what it was. She said it was Thali. There are two versions, Chapati or Puri. I chose the Chapati. I can see why so many people order this. It was very good with a variety of dishes you eat with the Chapati.

Overall, the atmosphere was upbeat and vibrant. Service was quick and efficient. The food was delicious. I can’t wait to return and...

We used to go here for many years but today we had worst service and not so good quality food. We ordered Bhel, tea and onion pakode and later idli . We both are diabetic so need our food on time but But after getting bhel our pakode we’re not delivered for one hour even though some other who came later got their pakode orders We also did not get our tea for almost 45 min.even though had asked them to make it right away. After one hour when we got pakode they were the worst pakode in my life . We’re very dry and without any taste and rather dry. Also idly was not very soft and was served very late. I am an excellent cook and can vouch that the pakode were worst . My wife make nice idli and Sambar so no point in going there . Normally we order thali but today we wanted to eat snacks as we were early. I even informed Abhay about the service but he did not really do any thing except. Just talk. In American restaurant they handle it better such situation. These guys do not care as they have too many customers due to cheap prices but quality is also cheap. One Gujarathi engineer from Dubai once said it to be that this food is not good and he never went there even though he was in Houston for one year.

All the restaurant floors were very dirty and bathroom were unhygienic and unclean. Owners do not care fir cleanliness at all

Even though cost of some food is reasonable the experience was worst today. We spent $25 including dinner takeout but now I wonder how the thali will be The girl at the counter was rather arrogant If you want to eat good food with nice service and atmosphere , this is not the place. In $25 we could have had great service and food in good Italian or other American place We do not recommend any normal people to spoil their experience by going to this cheap place It is indeed cheap and not a clean place and has most useless service @nd arrogant people...

Updated Review (after a year): I recently revisited Shiv Sagar during my visit to Houston, Texas after a long hiatus, and sadly, the experience left much to be desired. The Mysore Masala Dosa had an unpleasant burnt taste, casting doubt on whether it was the dosa itself or the potato curry inside. The Vegetable Uttapam lacked salt, while the Dahi Puri turned out surprisingly spicy. Even the green chutney accompanying the dosa and uttapam tasted odd. The sambhar, usually a highlight, was disappointingly watery. In the past, the restaurant used to be bustling with crowds, but this time only a few tables were occupied – a clear sign that others might have shared my disappointment. It appears the decline in taste has impacted the restaurant's popularity. It's disheartening to see a once-thriving establishment lose its appeal due to culinary shortcomings. Considering this, it might be time to explore other vegetarian restaurants in search of a more satisfying dining experience. The decline in both food quality and customer turnout suggests that the establishment needs to revisit its recipes and regain the trust of its once-loyal patrons.
