DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES OR DIETARY RESTRICTIONS.
I have a soy allergy. The people at front were super helpful and I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and I thought all was good. I made it clear I had an allergy and they checked ingredients for me. I thought I was in good hands.
Then I got my sandwich and there was a dollop of my friend's barbecue pulled pork on top. Barbecue sauce has soy in it a lot of times so I sent it back and asked for a sandwich without pork on it. I was very nice - just passed it to one of the busser ladies and showed her the pork. I'd given most of the pork dollop to my husband to taste and make sure, but it had been in between the chicken and the cheese on my sandwich. My friend had ordered a pulled pork sandwich so they were obviously just being sloppy on the grill. It also had grill seasoning which I had asked to leave off just in case (the cashier people said it wouldn't be a problem to leave it off) but whatever.
What I didn't expect was for the kitchen manager to come out and get after me. He was upset I sent the sandwich back. He loudly told me he can't prevent cross contamination and annoyedly reiterated that they would have to make it again like that was my problem. I told him that there was a difference between cross contamination and leaving a dollop of someone else's food on top of my grilled chicken sandwich. There is a mosque less than a mile from there and I'm sure no Muslim families coming from after services would appreciate random dollops of pork on their food.
He also said he couldn't make it without grill seasoning. He did tell me the ingredients and it was fine so I said whatever - but honestly how hard is it to not add a seasoning? I got my food well after everyone else in my party was done with their food.
I sent this complaint into their website the next day and included the ticket number. I wanted them to confirm if this was just a fluke or if they make a habit of accepting payment knowing I had an allergy and then sending their kitchen managers out to yell at people with allergies that they can't be accommodated. I gave them over a month and they never responded.
I eat out a lot. This was a random, terrible experience and I will never go back. My family enjoyed their food but how I was treated was completely unacceptable. If you can't accommodate allergies then tell the person up front. Don't accept payment and have them accosted on the back end. Also I've never been to a restaurant where, if the griddle is a complete mess which it seems like it was , they can't pull out a clean pan to cook a...
Read moreLet me first start off by saying thank you city of Houston for bringing a very nice kid friendly, yet at the same time homey country feeling restaurant. The location is absolutely perfect, nestled with two other restaurants all walking distance from each other. The atmosphere as soon as you walk into Mia's was awesome! The cashier's greeted us with a very warm welcome, explained how everything works there, answered my questions about the macaroni, their chips and queso (being that I absolutely love queso). The drink station was very clean & organized 😀! I definitely appreciated that! Now oh my goodness we sat outside so I could watch my kiddos play. Absolutely fantastic outside! The play area was no neat with the two decent size hills for the kids to run & play in & if they wanted to go through the cubby hole they could as well! My kiddos absolutely loved it & I loved how tired out they were afterwards! The food was absolutely delicious. From the huge delicious tasting fried pickles,, to the Texas sized onion rings, to the chips and queso that is AMAZINGLY good My! I didn't know what to expect,, but let me tell you Mia's queso did not disappoint! My chicken fried steak was Texas sized, fried to perfection! I highly recommend having your gravy it comes with on the side so you can get the full wonderful taste of the chicken fried steak! The macaroni oh my goodness was really, really good. I don't say that lightly because I'm a cook & most restaurants macaroni is mediocre at best. Mia's macaroni actually taste homemade! Every bite seemed to get better each time. My side salad was very fresh, & very good! My kiddos had the kid's meal cheeseburger & chicken strips. My daughter raved about how good the burger was & how soft & good the bread was! She is a burger lover so for her to tell me mom that burger was really good, made me happy. The chicken strips had a good taste, & great breading. Not to crispy, just right & lots of chicken! My daughter really enjoyed the grilled chicken pesto sandwich. Very, very good! I highly recommend to guest willing to try new places, that love kid friendly, and just that homey country feeling! The icing on the cake...wait for it! You get free ice cream here! My kiddos absolutely loved that!! Thank you Mia's for the wonderful hospitality &...
Read moreWe came here on a Sunday right when they opened at 11am. They get pretty crowded fast. The menu is a mix of typical American (burgers and tacos) mixed with Southern favorites (chicken fried steak and chicken, fried catfish and shrimp). Meals range from $13-$19 pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get! We were celebrating my dad’s birthday so there was 6 of us. We ordered different things but our food all came out at the same time! Impressive. You order your food at the register and they bring your food to your table. FREE REFILLS ON FOUNTAIN DRINKS! I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp. Not the best I had but not bad at all. My only complaint I wish they had a specialty house made remoulade sauce. The tartar sauce was so bland. My dad orders tacos which came with queso and chips. The queso was thick and gooey just how I like it! Kids meals are about $8 comes with a drink and a side. My kids had the cheeseburger and unfortunately if you want extra (like tomatoes, lettuce, bacon) you have to request it. This establishment is family friendly with a play area at the back of the restaurant for the kiddos to play. Pretty cool. Service was great as well. A woman kept approaching our table several times asking if we needed anything! Overall I would recommend this place I will definitely go back to...
