Searching for a delicious healthy lunch, I came across this recently opened Vietnamese gem, in a great location in the heights. It is just 1 block from the bike trail & 19th street. The first thing I noticed was the trendy decor on the exterior, with cool lighting & big plants. What I didn't see, was signage, very cool, I thought. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed it was nicely decorated and seemed very comfortable and bright. I walked over to the bar and took a seat. The bartender came by and asked what I would like, I mentioned it was my first time there. He made a few suggestions, which all seemed to be great (I'll have to go back and try the rest). I decided on ordering shrimp spring rolls, and a pork Bahn mi with a fried egg (by his suggestion). Being a huge fan of both dishes and Vietnamese food in general, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. Both items were larger and tastier than what I imagined. The spring roll came out as 2 large spring rolls, each cut in half, with a large ramekin of peanut sauce. This was awesome because I usually ask for additional, and didn't need to this time. They were tasty and filling, I probably could have just had those, but I didnt want to stop. Since they were so good, I decided I'd tackle the sandwich too. Again, it came much larger than I expected and was extremely tasty. In addition to the great food, large quantity and comfortable atmosphere, the service was amazing. The bartender helping me was Jorge, and I would highly recommend you ask for him, when you go. I'll be going back & would wholeheartedly recommend both the...
Read moreFirst time ordering (online) from this restaurant, and it will definitely be the last. Ordered several dishes including pho tai chinh, bun bo hue, shaken beef, egg rolls, and lemongrass pork (vermicelli). Even though the meal was brought out later than scheduled, all dishes were cold less than 10 minutes after they were handed over. Egg rolls (an order of 4 for $8) were barely 2" long each, 1" around with terrible flavor and limited to non-existent lettuce / mint / cilantro for proper consumption. Needless to say, not worth the money. Shaken beef sauce tastes like vinegar, and it appears the beef was boiled rather than cooked in a pan (no caramelization). Pieces of beef are tiny and mixed in with salad to hide the fact that they don't give you much beef with the meal. Again, for a $28 dish definitely not worth the money. Lemongrass pork had a funky taste to it (I'll update this review if I'm sick in the morning). The online description (and physical menu at the restaurant) of the bun bo hue did not fully describe what was in the dish (sweet tofu, beef liver?, and some sort of beef tendon and / or organ meat). Just as with the other dishes, the meat was lacking in this one as well. The only dish that did not completely disappoint was the pho tai chinh. Honestly not sure how in the world this restaurant has 4.6 stars in it's Google reviews.
Save your money and don't bother eating at this place if you want quantity and quality with...
Read moreThis is a very good Vietnamese Restaurant. There is a good selection of very tasty dishes which are well prepared and served in ample portions. The service was friendly but a tiny bit slow, however, my visit was on Father’s Day and the restaurant was full of patrons which can explain the minor delays that I encountered. It is a cozy atmosphere and tables are well spaced such that each group has a degree of privacy and is not in range to overhear or be bothered by other conversations.
We had the fried pork egg rolls as an appetizer, the pork chop and egg, and the lemongrass pork. Our favorite was the egg rolls. They were crispy, hot, stuffed with pork and very flavorful. The two entrees were a wonderful melange of well cooked meats, fresh vegetables, rice, and egg. They were tasty but lacking of spice. This was easily remedied by mixing in the homemade chili paste that was provided.
My one big disappointment is that I wanted to try the morning glory. This has become my favorite vegetable if it is prepared properly. Unfortunately, the restaurant had run out of morning glory and I could not sample it on this visit.
My dining companion and I do plan to return soon to try out the restaurant’s pho. They have several versions of pho available, all priced around $12. Based on what we tasted on our first trip here, we have high expectations that the pho will be very good and more than enough to satisfy...
