I visited for the first time on Friday. The space is cute, music is good, and clearly designed with intention, though it reminded me a lot of another nearby popular bar. I enjoyed the vibes.
I ordered a standard mixed drink since I thought my group was leaving soon and wanted to drink it quickly. I was expecting Fever-Tree since thatās kind of the standard mixer with this caliber of place, but it was just standard tonic. The result was one of the worst mixed drinks Iāve had in a long time and had a strong aspartame aftertaste. You canāt have it both ways - charging a premium, but not using premium ingredients. It was $21 for the worst gin and tonic of my life.
The bigger issue was the checkout. The iPad total already included gratuity, yet it said this nowhere on the screen or mentioned by the bartender. When I asked, the bartender confirmed that gratuity was already included but seemed surprised I noticed and the additional tip screen was if I wanted to add more. That felt misleading and a blatant cash grab to get just a few more dollars out of someone. I canāt imagine how many inebriated people have not noticed. A lot of places have tipped already included, but itās clearly mentioned on the screen or the server lets you know. Neither was the case here, I had to ask when I noticed that the total was quite high for what I got.
Between the low-quality ingredients, the steep price, and the lack of transparency at checkout, I donāt see myself coming back. Iām sure the craft cocktails are better, but the iPad experience turned me completely off. The atmosphere is nice, but the experience didnāt live up...

Just when I thought the Houston cocktail scene couldnāt surprise me anymore, Mr. Nice completely changed the game. From the moment you walk in, the energy is electricāsophisticated but not pretentious, sexy but still welcoming. The design is sleek with a touch of vintage cool, and the lighting sets the perfect mood whether youāre out with friends or on a date.
Now letās talk about the drinksāWOW. Every cocktail feels like it was crafted with intention and style. The mixologists here arenāt just bartenders, theyāre legit artists. I tried the āPurita Watermelon Palomaā and the āSpicy Mango Margaritaā both flawlessly balanced, fresh, and original. You can tell theyāre using premium ingredients and actually care about flavor, not just presentation (which, by the way, is š„).
Music was vibey without being overpowering, the crowd was diverse and stylish, and the service was attentive without hovering. We even got a personal recommendation from the bartender, which led to one of the best mezcal-based drinks Iāve had in Houston.
Mr. Nice lives up to its name. Houston needed a spot like thisāchill, elevated, and full of character. Iāll definitely be back, and Iām already...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe atmosphere is nice but the service was terrible. The drink orders were wrong several times and took more than 30 minutes on some drinks. We were also charged for 4 drinks we never ordered and ghosted about reimbursement, which ended up being about $100. Waitress seemed very lost and confused the whole time. We didnāt get a clear answer on whether there was tip included or not (it is included), leading us to tip $20 extra. Iāve seen other reviews about lack of transparency at check out and felt the same. There was also a ceiling leak while we were there and lit candles in vases behind our both that kept nearly falling...
