Underbelly Burger is located within the Houston Farmers Market in the Heights area. I'll be honest, I didn't even know there was a farmers market here, so it was pretty exciting to see something like this in Houston.
The restaurant is smaller with very minimal seating, but there were plenty of outdoor seating. My first impression of the menu was that it was pricy for a diner-casual fast food-type vibe. We ordered the wagyu burger combo that comes with ranch seasoned fries and a fountain drink.
Wagyu burger - 3/5 - do yourself a favor and opt for the angus burger, I couldn't even tell this was Wagyu. Meat felt over cooked and toppings were subpar quality ingredients. For a $14 burger, I didn't expect cheap shredded iceberg lettuce and a sesame burger bun.
Fries - 4/5 - perfectly crispy and potatoey. Seasoning flavor was not strong enough but it was also pretty salty. This was better than the burger.
Overall, I would probably not come back. I know Underbelly to be a great chain but the price is not worth the quality you get here. My actual rating would be a 3.5 star but rounding up for...
Read moreMy husband and I were excited to finally try Underbelly Burger. In general we have been Underbelly Group fans so we were sure this would be a treat. Surly Underbelly Burger would rank high with Houston Favorites like Lankford Market, Pappas Taquria & Burger, and Miller’s Cafe. Unfortunately, it was not the case.
Their menu is perfect in the sense that it’s small and to the point. Focus on what you make and make it well; again not the case.
The burgers for the price fell short by half. The flavor nothing to write home about. More thought went to the well cut but overly powdered ranch fries. The chicken sandwich was slop with sloppy cheese; I didn’t bother eating it.
Fan Favorite Side items like, jalapeños, bacon, mustard, onions, etc not readily available.
The ambiance and general look and feel of Underbelly Burger was as unorganized as the staff. Zero thought or passion. Clearly only focused on the foot traffic of The Farmers Market and the name Underbelly.
Underbelly Burger might as well have been a Yank or California transplant burger joint because it...
Read moreFinally got to try this restaurant! We've been looking forward to it for a while, but we only splurge on eating burgers now and then. So, that makes it even more important to us for the burger to be good. I had the Angus and my husband had the Wagyu. Both were very good. Not the "best" burger I've ever had but the best one in a LONG time! My husband said his was to messy, he would get less sauce next time. I liked mine the way it was but would like more pickles. We split an order of fries, which was plenty for the two of us. My husband really liked them and I thought they were ok, nothing wrong with them, just a matter of preference. He also had a chocolate milk shake, said it was very good. I liked that the menu was simple and few choices. Would like to try the veggie burger next time. The restaurant is basic and small, could use a little more personality. I recommend...
