After shopping at Memorial City Mall, my boyfriend and I decided to try out Velvet Taco because we were intrigued by their unique taco combinations. We both ordered the “say what” combo which consisted of two tacos, side dish, and fountain beverage.
♡ Chicken and Waffle Taco. 6/10! This was just a-okay. The chicken tender was big, crispy, and delicious. I do wish that there was a bit more maple syrup covering the chicken. Waffle tacos weren’t anything special. Still interesting though!
♡ Grilled Salmon Taco. 7/10! I wanted to try out a sea taco, and I chose this one cos I love fish. It was pretty good! I do wish that there was more salmon though. I felt like the taco had like 25% salmon and 75% of everything else. It could just be my taste bud, but I didn’t really taste that much fish.
♡ Queso Blanco w/ Chips. 6/10! The queso is good and thick in consistency, but nothing special in my opinion. I did like the blue chips though!
♡ Buffalo Chicken Taco. 8/10! Boyfriend liked the buffalo sauce, and it had the right amount of heat and flavor. However, he wished that there was more chicken in his taco.
♡ Chimichurri Steak Taco. 6/10! Boyfriend didn’t like this taco as much. The meat was very chewy, and he said that it was not as flavorful he’d like. Also, the meat kept falling out of his taco, so it was very messy to eat. He would not order this one again.
♡ Elote and Chips. 6/10! Boyfriend said it was okay, nothing great. He said he mostly tasted sweet corn and nothing else.
♡ Red Velvet Cake. 7/10! The cake was good, but not great. The cake is good for what it is. The cajeta gives it a unique twist, but it didn’t really elevate the flavor.
。 ₊°༺❤︎༻°₊ 。 FINAL VERDICT: I like this place because of its unique tacos. It seems like they use very fresh ingredients as well. Despite some shortcomings, we would still come back to try out their other...

Just left Memorial City and wanted to grab a bite to eat. A friend of mine had been recommending Velvet Taco and found out there was one nearby. They have a good selection of tacos, bowls, and even vegetarian/vegan options. I had the pleasure of meeting Jay and DJ who was more than happy to give me some recommendations. I decided to go with the “Say What” combo which includes 2 tacos, a side and drink. Went with the Spicy Chicken Tikka, Chimichurri Steak, elote for the side, and the sangrita swirl for a $6 up charge. Saw a ton of reviews praising the red velvet cake, so I got the too. Everything was SO GOOD! The steak was flavorful and tender. I didn’t feel like my jaw was going to lock up from chewing. I personally didn’t think the Tikka chicken was spicy (I know tolerance varies from person to person). Thought it was the perfect amount of heat without being overbearing. The Indian flavors were definitely there! The elote was one of the best I’ve had from a restaurant. Red velvet cake wasn’t dry or overly sweet. Comes with a side of caramel to drizzle over top but you honestly may not need it. The sangria swirl is a mix of their sangria and kick ass margarita. If you’re looking for something that doesn’t taste strong BUT may sneak up on you…this is the drink to get! Overall, I had a great experience at Velvet Taco and would 10/10 recommend. One more place to mark...
Read moreOn a recent Friday evening, my family and I visited the Memorial City location. The restaurant’s lively ambiance, characterized by colorful decor and upbeat music, set the stage for an enjoyable meal.
We ordered a variety of items to share: the paneer and Nashville Hot Tofu tacos, Elote Guacamole, and the Seasonal Veggie Bowl. The paneer taco featured fried paneer cheese complemented by vibrant sauces and fresh toppings, while the Nashville Hot Tofu taco offered a spicy kick balanced by cool slaw. The Elote Guacamole combined classic guacamole with roasted corn, queso fresco, and citrus lime crema, creating a flavorful twist on a traditional favorite. The Seasonal Veggie Bowl was a hearty mix of roasted vegetables, guacamole, and buttered cilantro basmati rice, providing a satisfying vegetarian option.
Service was prompt and friendly, with staff eager to accommodate our requests and ensure a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant’s commitment to quality and creativity was evident in each dish, making it a standout choice for those seeking innovative takes on classic tacos.
Overall, Velvet Taco’s Memorial City location delivers on its promise of bold flavors and a fun dining environment. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s a must-visit spot for taco...
