They discriminate against able bodied people!!! Several times I’ve booked a non handicapped room in advance and they put me in a handicapped room. Forcing an able bodied person in to a handicapped room is the exact same thing as forcing a handicapped person into an able bodied room. This space wasn’t created for an able bodied person so it’s extremely uncomfortable or impossible to do the things i can do comfortably in a regular room. For instance there’s no countertop in the bathroom so brushing your teeth is hard because there’s nowhere to store your toothpaste, toothbrush mouthwash ect. I assume its designed like that because someone in a wheelchair could just wheel themselves to the sink & just place their items on their laps. So every time i want to brush & moisturize my hair, my beard or wash my face & brush my teeth, put in or remove my contacts i have to put the coffee table in here & stack a chair on top just to have a place to place my things(see below pic). It’s also hard to shower because the shower head is filthy caked up with soapscum ant it’s placed lower at wheelchair length. There’s also no tub and the shower floor & bathroom floor is one. I hate this place and travel extensively for work & i travel to houston every 2 weeks for personal reasons but they’ll never see another dollar of mines again. I haven’t even started on how rude the desk personnel or maids are & how they beat on you door & harass you to leave prior to check out time. If you value your money & getting exactly what you paid for avoid ALL Sonesta Suites locations.

Ayana at the front desk provided us with the worst customer service I have ever experienced. She spoke to me the entire time with one air pod in her ear and a complete lack of concern for our situation which was incredibly unprofessional. My mom and I are traveling cross country with our dog and booked our reservation under the bring Fido app (which is a dog friendly hotel app). Upon arrival they claimed they couldn’t find our reservation and I waited 35 minutes in their hotel lobby waiting for my confirmed and prepaid reservation to show up in their system. I called bring Fido and they confirmed that my reservation was paid for and confirmed and had no idea why the front desk staff couldn’t find. It took them a total of 2 hours to find the reservation which Ayanna claimed was due to them not looking in the correct reservation folder. Ayanna refused to comp us for anything even a $2 bottle of water after all the inconvenience. The elevator has also been out of service since April 20th which is not safe for handicapped individuals and was not disclosed to us upon arrival. It is also not posted anywhere on their website which is an ADA violation. We had to carry our luggage and dog up three flights of stairs and now she has a limp because she is older. The rooms are filthy and have a moldy smell. Don’t waste your time with the Incompetent staff and the disgusting rooms. I have also reported them on the bring Fido app for claiming to be dog friendly hotel when that is a false claim.

Every Wednesday they host a social for the guest. The event usually entails free hotdogs, burgers, or sandwich, or something along those lines, chips, and drinks. Drinks provided are water, soda, wine, and beer. They still offer this in spite of COVID-19. Staff is friendly. Location is great. Within walking distance of a park and two different malls (1 outdoor, 1 indoor). Room was clean and came equipped with a full fridge, dishwasher, 2 counter stove top burners, and a set of kitchenware. Oven not 🚫 included. There is also a lounge chair by the bed. And ample size desk. A heads up. If you are booking one room and aren’t able to look at it before finalizing your reservation, I would suggest asking for a room that does not adjoin to another (shares a door). That may help you limit unwanted noice from neighboring guest. Facility amenities include free guest laundry, small fitness room, and a honor system Candlewood Cupboard (small convenient store). Internet speed is slow. Download speed < 4 Mbps Upload speed < 2 Mbps I’m sure this speed varies depending on traffic and your location within the hotel relative to a wireless access point. Aside from the slow complementary Wi-Fi, no other complaints thus far.

PLEASE READ IF CONSIDERING A STAY: (specific examples below)

This hotel is not a “surprise find” in a decent area of town. In spite of the surrounding area being full of decent establishments (Taste of Texas is one of Houston’s finest), this hotel is an absolute dump. Between the “hourly” rentals, the total lack of upkeep, and the non-existent accounting to know what room is occupied or not, there is nothing redeeming here except a low price. Even then, I can assure you you’ll receive less than the value you pay.

We had 5 rooms for 2 nights during a work trip. When we checked in, there was a conversation happening with police and what appeared to be a newly former tenant, judging by the piles of possessions surrounding him. Check in was as expected. However, after receiving our keys and getting to our rooms, TWO of them were already occupied by “guests”. Fortunately, nothing beyond embarrassment and surprise were discovered on the other side of the door. After the initial shock of walking in on other people in what you assume will be a clean room, we went back downstairs to address the issue. The employee at the front desk apologized, but made the comment “that shouldn’t be the case”, inferring the rooms should not be occupied. MAJOR RED FLAG! At this point, two new keys were given. Upon opening the door to one of the room, the carpet in the room was wet. Not just a little damp like a recent water spill, but wet like a leak had gone undiscovered for awhile.

At this point, we had already had enough to know this place, and the impossible to be true Google rating and hotels.com reviews, was beyond unacceptable.

We walked down to the front desk, explained the water issue and simply asked if we could cancel our rooms entirely. The front desk agent certainly agreed/apologized and said he’d refund our payment for the rooms and cancel them immediately. We left and found a different hotel, thinking we’ve got 60 minutes of wasted time and a bizarre story to tell… Not the case.

The hotel has still NOT refunded our payment and continued to refuse to do so, citing “cancellation rules”. Not only did they lie when they said they’d refund our payment upon cancellation, they will continue to take your money, send you through the ringer of a terrible experience, and have no issues claiming “it’s the rules”.

STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK! BUT...

One of the most disappointing hotel experiences. The only redeeming quality of this establishment is its proximity to the City Centre, despite being situated right next to a post office and directly behind a Fuddruckers restaurant. Unfortunately, even with this advantageous location, the hotel's safety and security left much to be desired. Inadequate lighting both in the parking lot and around the hotel, which led us to use the side entrance closest to our room, added to our concerns. To make matters worse, the service provided by the staff and housekeepers was below par, and the overall cleanliness of the hotel was severely lacking. The pervasive odors of urine, weed, and garbage lingered in the air. The frame above our bed seemed to have been tainted with animal urine and was disturbingly sticky.

Regrettably, the air conditioning system barely functioned, despite being set to a chilly 62 degrees. Non-operational windows prevented any fresh air or airflow from entering the room, compounding the discomfort caused by the malfunctioning AC unit. The carpets in both the living room and bedroom appeared neglected and had not seen a proper cleaning in quite some time.

Adding to the already dire situation, we encountered several roaches in our clothes, suitcase, around the bed, and even in the kitchen. When we tried to report these issues to the front desk during check-out on Sunday around 10:30am, there was no one there to address our concerns, even after waiting for more than 10 minutes for someone to arrive, leaving us with the impression that they may not have taken the matter seriously even if they were present. In sum, our entire experience felt akin to staying in a subpar college dorm room and was a profound letdown. I would highly recommend...

We stayed at the Candlewood while visiting relatives in Houston. I was looking for price, since this was just a short stay, with no business being done, no entertaining, etc. One of the internet services hooked us up, so I really don't know what the direct website price is, etc., but I suspect that it is pretty reasonable, compared to a lot of others in West Houston, that I'm sure can get VERY pricey. Despite the economy of the rates, we got a nice room with a KITCHEN(!), FULL REFRIGERATOR w/ Freezer, real plates, real utensils (a few), as well as the coffee maker, microwave, etc. Then, the room had space to walk about, a bit, without running into furniture and walls. This space is included in the bathroom and closet as well. They could have put in some table/shelf on one side of the bed, they had a table on the other. Nice sized dinette and a big chair, TV, of course. Apparently they have free DVD's and CD's, as well as a laundry area. They also had a small convenience store refrigerator, with a few moderately priced items, like orange juice to make an evening screwdriver. This looks like a great place to stay if you have some long-term work to do in Houston, and is not bad at all for an evening stay. No pool, and no breakfast. As to difficulties finding the location, you just have to be on your toes to make that right off the freeway exit at Attingham. Otherwise, a GPS will take you around several blocks at the next right.(Obviously, we did that.) If you DON'T have GPS, then stay on the freeway feeder and do a left U-Turn, and then another u-turn back, and right on Town & Country Way, or just go back to Attingham and follow...
