A restaurant chain that has been around since the early 70s. Known as Monterey House. Now Montwrto Little Mexico.
This one in Humble is right across from City Hall one block east of 59 and 1 block sour of 1960.
Looks like original building still standing. Might have been an El Chico or El Fenix in the past.
In the day of way overly priced Tex Mex restaurants on every corner this one remains affordable, and consistent ( per my friend who goes there once or twice a week.
For me Consistency is a HUGE factor. There are a million Mexican restaurants and Taco stands in the Naked City. Many are good one time and the next time you wonder why you n made the choice.
They have all the standard combo plates from forever ago, but also have fajitas, grilled tacos Al carbon etc..
When I go these places I stick to the "original" for every Tex Mex chain since the 60s. The staple...an enchilada dinner 2 cheese or beef. One taco rice and beans.
My friend who lives in Kingwood is very picky and he still goes there which is how I ended up there from the Woodlands. Helping him with a project.
Over all the food is good, the service was excellent. I didn't get servers name or I would put it out there.
2 people lunch specials two teas with tax was $27. We left full, and my Amex wasn't empty.
Now one thing is that in the "old" days they used to put little wrapped Mexican candy.. Dulce de leches in the chip basket at the end of the meal, but alas those days are gone.
A good place for more...
Read moreThe chicken Cancoon is so good. I get it every time I go and have done so for over 20 years.. (wow, realization), but this is the first time I have ever come to this location, as just a few weeks prior to my visit, I didn't even know it existed, until I ordered delivery from drdh. When the delivery arrived, I was kinda embarrassed and told my family that my portion didn't look good, but it's good. I got enchiladas for my daughter, and she enjoyed them. My excuse was that it was a dr dh delivery and you know, you pay highest price to have that food delivered, but it's never as good as it usually is in the restaurant. Anyways, so family night out, and I was thinking about this plate all day. So here we go. Good sign that there were cars in the parking lot. Not as well lit as I would prefer, so before dark outing is better. Entering into the dining area, the floor is divided into two sections. To the left of the entrance, you had to take several steps down to enter, but they were sitting mostly everyone in the upper section. I'm not sure how they are segregating diners. But to sum it up, my plate arrived, and while it was good, the presentation was out of the box and a little disappointing. My daughter got Charo beans, and when I tasted them, I couldn't decide what they tasted like, but they were sour and bitter. I was hoping to make this place a go-to for my family, but it missed the mark for the ladies in my life, as it felt like eating at a not so...
Read moreOur family has been going here for years for birthdays and we never had problems. Every since the long time manager left, it has not been the same. He always made sure that we received great service.
There are better choices of Mexican food in the area, but we have always gone to Montereys due to the manager and the friendly atmosphere that he fostered.
I took my sister and family on June 13th f or her birthday and was very disappointed for the first time. There were 6 happy birthday balloons in the middle of the table along with a birthday cake, yet none of the staff members or waitresses acknowledged that there was a birthday. I wanted it to be a perfect birthday lunch, but just the fact that they didn’t at least pretend to care upset me. Before walking out the door, I went to the counter and said something, and the employees reluctantly came to the table to sing happy birthday on our way out the door. Unfortunately my sister noticed that I had to ask, and that left an impression on her as well.
Montereys is just not the same anymore, although I was told that the prior manager received a well...
