Not bad, not great. If standard, no-frills American food with little flare and a small-ish beer selection is fine with you, then Longboard may be a good choice for your next downtown Huntington Beach outing!
Longboard is conveniently situated just off of the Huntington pier on Main St. Like nearly every other restaurant on the strip, Longboard has a fairly narrow storefront with a back patio and a convenient outdoor seating area near the street.
The number of brews on tap are few, but whomever is in charge has done a fairly good job with the selection, offering a bit of everything, even if the choices are more limited than I would personally like.
Service was great and I really enjoyed the attentiveness of our server. She knew the food and was in good humor throughout our visit.
However, the food was mediocre at best (and I generally like "pub" food).
The fries were completely unseasoned (as in utterly tasteless) and their sandwiches were rather bland, as well.
The Cheesesteak, touted as "Bruce's Best" on the menu, is a seriously disappointing attempt if you've ever had a half-decent cheesesteak before.
The homemade pasta salad was tasty as a side, but too heavy and oily to eat very much of.
The egg dishes were very basic fare and the pesto chicken sandwich was "ok", but nothing any of us would likely order again.
The quality of the food at Longboard is fine, but it's inexcusably unexciting. This is where you go when you have a family of picky "meat and potato" eaters or are really new to the area and want to play it absolutely "safe" on the food front. If you're hoping for a creative dish or something to earn your tastebuds' respect, you won't find it here.
All in all, Longboards wasn't a bad experience. It was a nice meal with good service, but they probably don't deserve a Main St. presence for what they offer.
Aside from the decent, albeit somewhat limited, beer selection, there is little reason to choose Longboard over one of the many other eateries that line Main Street in every direction. Still, it's a Main St. classic and some will find comfort in its...
Read moreI watched a Mexican tourist discriminated here tonight in a really shameful display by their bouncer "Mike". He showed his passport and was turned away, as the bouncer said he would only accept a drivers' license. When the man explained he was a tourist, here on visa, and was required to use the passport as his government issued ID, the bouncer told him to get lost. So... according to this bouncer, foreigners (as well as those that do not drive) cannot attend Longboard?
I was upset by the way the man was treated and turned away for nothing more than being a Mexican national, so I spoke up and told Mike that a passport is a form of government issued ID, too. The exact response I received: "I don't care. I'm the bouncer, so now that you've wasted my time, you can go join him, since you're not getting in either." Wow!!
I was disgusted by this point, but trying to keep my calm. I realized I could get nowhere with the bouncer, so I asked to speak to a manager. And was then told "You're not speaking to my manager. You can't get past me, so you're not speaking to anyone. ** off." He then stood up and took a step forward in a display of intimidation. As a young, small statured woman, the threatening tone and body language were ridiculous. I hadn't yelled or threatened or even made a scene, I'd only asked to speak to management for clarification.
It was the most unprofessional, intolerant, and upsetting display I've ever seen. Everything about it was completely uncalled for. Fortunately, two onlookers were also upset by it, and offered their information to both me and tourist, in case we chose to file a complaint. At minimum, the four of us will likely be reaching out to the owner to clarify their identification policy, and inform them of the lack of professionalism exhibited by their staff member (even if that WERE the policy, what a horrendous way to treat people). I truly hope this was an isolated incident and not the philosophy of Longboard.
At best it was bullying. At worst, discrimination. I am completely revolted by...
Read more5 of us met for dinner at 5pm and I got there 10 min. Iater. We sat on the back patio. It was a Tuesday. 1st time there but 2 of the friends live blocks away in Huntington Beach so have been there several times b4 along with their son from out of state. 2 ordered lobster rolls, 1 chicken wings. 1 quesidilla & I the tri tip sandwich. Except for the quesidilla, all orders came with french fries & a sauce for dipping or spreading. I had a beer. Not sure what the others drank. Service was quick, everyone had a menu & knew what they wanted to eat when I got there. After I ordered I saw there was a card on the table for specials for the day. The food also arrive quickly. I wasn't stuffed from the meal. The sandwich was average size, not large but sufficient. It was okay..not anything I'd crave again but there are a lot of items to choose from & several others I would have ordered. Dress is casual. Prices fair. My sandwich was $16.95. The wings & quesidilla no doubt were less $. There are TVs there so people were watching baseball & basketball. My nephew paid the bill and I didn't see it. He wouldn't take my money even for the tip. He said the bill was only around $120..but it could have been more if everyone drank alcohol. Every Tuesday night they block off Main Street for a street fair. People were out, vendors selling their wares & stores/restaurants were open so it's a good night to go. There's a parking garage directly across the street from Longboards. Since Main St. Is blocked off on Tuesday, I entered from 3rd Street. 1 1/2 hrs free parking & $1 per hour after that. I already was in my car at 6:20 but must have gotten to the cash window a minute after the 1 1/2 hrs were up as I paid $1. Since you're so close to the beach, I'm sure beach goers & shoppers park there too. You can drive thru a credit card exit with no attendant and those cars whizzed out. I would go to Longboards again & Tuesday night is a good time to go with the street fair...
