No Ka Oi is a familiar phrase for someone like me who is from Hawaii. The immediate impression is that they have âlocal foodâ and glancing quickly at the menu at the front desk I saw the standard local dishes that indicated that they were someplace I wanted to eat. After all, I was in Huntington Beach feeling the ocean vibe. Instantly my mind started imagining the Rainbowâs Drive-in Waikiki. Sitting down at a table a friendly waiter soon approached me with a menu. Great! Iâm hungry! Wanting to grind! So I looked over the menu and settled on the corned beef hash with gravy. I asked if it came with rice. Of course I did, but the waiter wasnât sure and asked if I minded an up charge if it wasnât. Strange, I thought. Definitely not a local food joint. Brah! Rice comes with everything! Lol! I just said no problem. Corned beef for a local boy Filipino is a must! I asked for the gravy on the side. I also ordered the pork belly char siu. Promising because it was spelled local style char siu! Iâm a sucker for fatty pork! After about 20 minutes I received my order. The corned beef was interesting. Definitely not a local style corned beef plate. Maybe it is local inspired. The gravy which did not come on the side but poured all over, was a white gravy similar to what I usually see on chicken fried steak. It also came with vegetables that I typically do not see with corned beef. Not to judge, because everyone tells me that I need to eat more vegetables! Lol! Props to the restaurant, it wasnât canned corned beef, but decent sized pieces of a side of a corned beef brisket. The reason I ask for gravy on the side is because sometimes the plate comes drowning in brown gravy. I took a few bites. It wasnât bad but not what I am used to it came with rice. I donât know if I got charged because I didnât really look at the bill. I asked for box to bring my leftovers home and have it with my own rice. Japanese short grain white rice and eat the char siu in the comfort of home. Will I return? It depends on how my leftovers taste!...
Read moreHave always enjoyed getting breakfast here and I met up with some out of town friends this morning to introduce them to this lovely spot. Their potatoes and hashbrowns are incredible and wonderfully crisp. I usual get a seafood Benedict, but opted for the kahlua pork benedict today to give their kahlua pork a try. Huge mistake. It was extremely dry and bizarrely sour and funky tasting. I really wanted to send it back but felt bad because of these tough times. My friends enjoyed their surf and turf benedicts and the SoCal benedict opting for poached eggs instead of the scrambled eggs as described on the menu. We also gave their seafood breakfast enchiladas a try and OMG!
I wish I had more sun coverage while dining here this morning. It was a beautiful day weather wise but the beating sun burning me got to be a bit uncomfortable. The heart of Main Street is shut down to car traffic so that restaurants can set up outdoor dining areas. Service was a bit slow but our waiter very pleasant. People need to support restaurants as much as they can during...
Read moreI was on a sisters trip to Disneyland and we wanted to go the beach for the day. When we all where walking we found this gem! Its been over a month since I have gotten back home and I'm still thinking about this place and their amazing food.

All of us left full and very satisfied. The food was flavorful and so well balanced. The staff was very welcoming and friendly! Our waitress was very informed and on top of everything! Its also affordable as well as cool place to relax from the sun. If I visit again I will be back...
