THE WORST SERVICE - and I rarely complain about that because everyone has a bad day. BUT THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE. Here's the summary - we got there at 1:50pm because at 2pm they have a special 20%off rolls. We sat down and someone brought us water. We asked the waitress if they have it - GUESS WHAT SHE SAID? We had to walk in after 2pm. So I asked if we can wait 5 minutes (it was 1:55 by now) and order after 2pm. She asked the manager to come - manager said no. We had to walk out and walk back in she said - and my facial reaction was that of confusion. Literally they wanted us to walk out and walk back in. I mean, whatever. But I said that's pretty ridiculous - that's when the manager (older lady) said: "If you don't like it go somewhere else!" - Who says that? So, we were hungry and craving sushi, so we picked up allll our beach gear and boards and all, walked out (on the other side of the fence our table) and we were gonna come back in - THAT'S WHEN IT GOT WORSE. The manager went to another table, as a server this time, and that table was right next to our table - so we could hear everything (that was her intention probably) and said to the couple that sat at the table "WHO CARES ABOUT 20% THAT MUCH?! ". What? Excuse me as I'm about to walk back in!...I said pretty loud, by now I was pretty annoyed with her comment to a table of strangers, " I'm a grad student and I do! Then I walked right in front of her on the other side of the fence and said- "I could hear you talking about me and I don't think it's necessary for you to talk about me to other clients. That's when she said, trying to seem polite to the couple at the table, "I'm sorry you guys have to witness this, I will comp your lunch". Whaaat? What are these morals? How can she be so annoyed with us for wanting to get the special they offer? Anyways, it escalated from there. We decided we don't go back in so as we were deciding where to go while still in front, we heard her say to a waitress, "don't serve them if they come in" - she red flagged us as if are peace disturbers! We were in aw. I have never been treated like a scum before and all that attitude and behavior was NOT NECESSARY. She made us feel so unwanted and crazy for wanting the 20% that I had to share this review. I saw there are other people who also said the staff if rude. This place needs a staff make-over but apparently this manager is one of the 2 managers that is owner. They call her Big Mama - I found this out from the other location in Long Beach - the manager there was a man, very nice and he told me her name and position. So not much help to write them an official complaint...that's why I'm writing this for other people to know what to expect. I don't care anymore about their food because there are plenty of sushi places where we are treated humanely and with respect. I highly recommend Sushi Ay on 2nd street!
Edit update - nothing happened since I made the complaint and my friend just went there tonight - 2 years after my experience and had a similar...
Read moreWorst experience ever!!! I have never written a review. The moment we arrived ( party of 8 ) we didn't get seated right away because everyone in our party had to be present. Ok no big deal... I understand that's their policy. But if it was such a big deal to them , it might be a good idea to mention that over the phone. So as the rest of the people from my party arrived and we finally got seated. The Lady whom everyone calls MAMA came over to our table and started scolding us because she said we wasted her time because our party was late. Who does she think she is? really??? What a joke. Was that necessary? She was so loud and obnoxious I don't understand how she gets away with that attitude. After being there for 1 1/2 hour we spent about $480. Can you believe she literally yelled across the room to tell us to get up and leave cuz she had people waiting? My dad wasn't even down with his beer. The food was good but not that good. There are plenty of sushi restaurants out there who will not treat their customers this way. Anyways I will never come back to this place nor will I ever recommend anyone. The worst...
Read moreI would like to preface this review by saying I hate negative reviews and never aim to hurt a business. However, in order to honor the choice consumers have in where they spend their time and money, an honest review is always vital. I’ve lived in Huntington Beach for some time now and have waited to try this place for more than a year because of some negative reviews I read initially, and the fact that their sushi ingredients looked non-traditional and low-quality. Well, I finally went for a sit down meal with my wife here, and the sushi was very sub-par. Do not be fooled by the many positive ratings. Those ratings are for the Shabu-Shabu here, NOT THE SUSHI! I was very disappointed with the rolls we ordered. We only took a bite of each before not being able to continue. I asked our server for the bill and paid promptly so we could leave. I will not be returning here for sushi ever again, and I would advise anyone to try their wonderful Shabu-Shabu, but not the sushi. There are plenty of higher quality sushi restaurants in the area. Any sushi place you go to in Huntington will be better...
