The food here was rather disappointing. Service wasn't great either. We ordered a bowl of Shoyu on Fire that was incredibly lackluster. The worst bowl of ramen I've had in years to be brutally honest. The broth was incredibly bland despite the profusion of heat. While was very much true to its namesake "On fire", that was hardly enough to save it. It was lacking the depth. The broth originally tasted very similar to broth made with those seasoning packets that come with instant ramen only not nearly as salty. Fortunately I was able to add soy sauce from the condiments tray, which brought it to the level of saltiness one would expect from half decent ramen broth. But the flavor flat and boring. The photo on the menu looked very appetizing but the quantity of ingredients in the actual we were served didn't live up to the photo. There was only one piece of pork chashu instead of two. It was a healthy piece but not hardly big enough to compensate for two pieces. There was only a little bit of everything else. To me this is a clear sign of bait and switch. I know times are hard but the cost cutting needs to stop. This is my first time here so I based on high ratings I can only assume one of two things. Either it used to be good or the poor hipsters over in Silverlake simply have no clue what good ramen actually tastes like.
The other items we ordered were two cut sushi rolls and hot green tea. The green tea was lukewarm which they explained was because it was old batch. Ok? So we requested for 'new' ones, which they obliged. The cups came back adequately warm, but not hot like you'd expect. Speaking of the tea towards the end of our meals we wanted refills and our cups were half full of old tea. It took a quite a while just to get our cups refilled and when the server returned I joked "I thought you guys forgot our tea" and she replied with a very cold face, "we were waiting for the hot water to boil" . (A ramen shop that doesn't have hot water on tap? Hmm ok.) Anyway our cups weren't even hot and barely lukewarm. Looks like they literally refilled our cup by topping off our cold tea (we were seated outside on gloomy cold day (to social distance from those indoors) .
Anyway the sushi rolls were okay. Not great not bad. Just okay. They were standard rolls. Spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura.
Anyway I hope the staff and management take my comments to heart. I do love a hood ramen bowl and great service and got neither at...
Read moreI was so happy to find out that Silverlake Ramen opened at Bella Terra! I've heard such great things about the place so I wanted to try it. All our favorite ramen places were so crowded so I was happy that we were able to be seated right away.
FOOD WE TRIED
Chicken Karaage: I love the sauce that comes with it- a spicy mayo but better. It compliments the chicken very well. The chicken is very tender and perfectly crisp on the outside. They have two sizes available, but the regular is good enough.
Brocollini: I was not expecting to love it as much as I do. I love the sesame flavor that compliments the brocollini s o well. We order it every time. I wish the portions were bigger though because we eat it all so fast.
Gyoza: I think these are my favorite potstickers. I personally like that it comes with the spicy mayo, but my mom says she prefers the soy sauce. The gyoza is so crispy and delicious. I love that it doesn't come with veggies.
Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen: I got this with the pork and the pork is so thick and tender! Sooo good. It comes with one piece that is pretty big. The broth is also very flavorful and creamy. I love the noodles as well!
Spicy Shoyu Ramen: This ramen is also delicious and more like a light broth than the tonkatsu. I love that it comes with corn!
Next time I want to try the Garlic Truffle Ramen. Can't wait to come back!
The servers are also super nice. I forgot the person's name, but he was great and has been there both times that I've gone and...
Read moreLove it here! The food never lets me down. Service here is good and has been every time we come down. Even if I we go have To Go orders. They’re always friendly and attentive! They do get busy at night, to the point where they’ll have a waiting list, so be aware if you plan on going for dinner.
FOOD: The Garlic Truffle Ramen is where it’s at!! The broth is so good, the garlic truffle is a nice compliment to their noodles and whatever protein you get. I get the pork and man the portion of the pork you get, is a lot.
The pork bun is 10/10, the portion of the pork that they give is actually a lot, so you get your moneys worth. If you do get it for “to go”, beware that the bottom of the bun may be soggy from the juices of the pork. Which isn’t bad because that means the pork isn’t dry.
Chicken Karage is my favorite appetizer here and be sure to dip it in their spicy Mayo. The breading/batter that they use for the karage makes it crispy, and then dipping it in their spicy mayo is a nice combo.
Pork Bowl is my 2nd favorite here. If I’m not in the mood for ramen, this would be my go to. The pork that comes with the bowl, just like your pork bun or the pork they put in your noodles - it’s juicy! You can bite into it and the meat can sometimes melt, so having that with the rice is a nice combo as well. I’ll sometimes ask for a couples sides of spicy mayo and drizzle it on top of this bowl and boom!
Thank you Silverlake Ramen for keeping my...
