J. Mendoza Bakery has the one distinction that attracts me the most, and that is being the only peruvian bakery I have found in southern California. He works out of Huntington Park which is like an hour drive from Dana Point, Ca, where we reside. Luckily he sells his products locally to a couple of places, and even though you pay somewhat more for what you would get at his bakery, you save yourself the drive, which can be very aggravating for we all know how tedious traffic can be in the Los Angeles area. His Mil Hojas, large Alfajores, and Cachitos filled with manjar blanco, are more than enough reason to buy from this bakery. He delivers on the quality, size and taste of the goods. Obviously he has many, many variety of baked goods, all worth examining but we are irreversibly addicted to most pastries with manjar blanco (that is the official name but nowadays is called several, among them dulce de leche, but please note that the variations can be many so as long as it taste right you have a winner), and J. Mendoza Bakery deserves the notoriety for he works, along with his family, late hours to put out the goodies. I say that for the novelty along of being a peruvian bakery, he easily gets 4.5 Stars in our book. Yes, they are sweet and eaten in large amounts probably may not be the healthiest of eating, but for once in a while, like you would See's Candies, these creations deserve respect in the culinary world. 4.5 Stars. Update 3-2-2013: Used to be very good pastries. The last batch I had the misfortune of purchasing from J. Mendoza Bakery, the alfajores tasted terrible. The things that made it great were gone. This, of course, is unacceptable. Sad to see that quality control is no longer an asset. What is up with these businesses that think that they can sell crappy products, sort of like ride on past waves, an no longer care for their products. This was a letdown. Before I praised their skill, today I shun their alfajores for they are no longer...
