Overpriced, poorly cooked, disorganized opening staff.. We ate here this past Friday around 630pm. I believe this was their first weekend after opening. The staff was disorganized, but considering everyone was still in training this is not surprising. It was a busy evening!
I feel like they're trying too hard to imitate different BBQ styles that they are not familiar with while simultaneously trying to add their own flair to classic dishes. If the BBQ itself were on point, this could be cool. But unfortunately it just is not there. We sampled the brisket, tri tip, sausage, and Dino rib, which covered the majority of their "smoked" meats selection. Being well traveled through Texas due to my partner being a resident there and extremely familiar with these styles and also understanding can be hard to replicate perfectly, I expected to not be "wow'd" but did not expect to be entirely disappointed.
The brisket was smokeless in flavor, as was the tri tip. It tasted like it had been exclusively cooked in an oven and not smoked at all. The 1/2lb of brisket was also not properly weighed. We got 2 thin slices on one plate and 1 thin slice on the second (two separate "1/2lb" orders) which in no way amounted to 1/2lb each. Even just eyeballing brisket, you can expect 2-3 properly sized(thickness) slices for a 1/2lb serving. We alone paid $30 ($15 per 1/2lb) for 3 slices of brisket, and in retrospect should have argued this before paying.
The sausage with pimento was decent, no major complaints there. The Dino rib was well seasoned and appropriately cooked and priced. The Dino rib is the only thing I would consider ordering again, if I am in the mood for a $25 plate of meat. Overall, you're much better off getting your BBQ elsewhere if that's what you're hankering for. I'd recommend Bizzie's BBQ up the road near Strike Zone for food with real love and authenic...
Read moreHad a really nice meal this evening. All these 1 star reviews complaining about bad service on opening day is pretty funny.
Evan was our server and he was definitely new to serving but he was nice and attentive and gave good recommendations for us. I always try the pulled pork as my first dish at a BBQ restaurant and the one I had at Bask did not disappoint. Great smoke flavor and very tender. I'm not a huge coleslaw fan, but their coleslaw was pretty solid. I got the bacon braised kale as my side and it was delicious..I will definitely get it again!
Someone mentioned them only having one sauce, but that's not the case if you ask. My sandwich came with their house BBQ sauce (a little too vinegar forward for my taste) but the Texas Heat they have was excellent. Good, traditional BBQ sauce with a nice bit of heat on it. They had a couple others as well for a total of four sauces, you just have to ask (they may ask you eventually once the staff is trained up).
I tried my daughters mac and cheese and it was really good, maybe a touch dry, but I'm sure each batch will be slightly different. My wife had the smashburger and enjoyed it; our friend got the chicken sandwich and liked it as well.
They have a very good beer selection and a full cocktail menu. We didn't have any service issues like what other complained about, maybe because as I mentioned, they are complaining about the kinks of a brand new restaurant being worked out which maybe is why the grand opening isn't until August 18 and they are currently operating as a soft opening.
I look forward to going back to try additional menu items and I'm excited to see what's hidden on the menu that will be available to order starting August 18 during the...
Read moreMe & my fiancée was just there this past weekend & we WILL NOT be returning. Our server was Courtney who also works at another location & is the reason we don't go there & by our luck we got her at this location this weekend. She was training a new server & every mistake she blamed the new server, we waited FOREVER for our appetizer & she blamed the trainee saying she never rang it in. We ordered bar drinks & watched them be made & set in the window for almost 10 minutes before she got them & brung them to us & tried to say the bar was backed up but we was sitting in the booth across from the bar & watched that they wasn't backed up. Our food came out COLD & Courtney also told us there was a "new girl" in the back sending food out so she would go tell her to make sure it's coming out hot, never offered to replace it or even at least heat it back up for us. She was snoody & rude. We asked for boxes because we was just ready to go & you would have thought we asked her for her for so much more because she proceeded to roll her eyes, walk off & stand in the kitchen doorway talking for about 5 minutes before we just left our food, paid our bill & walked out as she was still standing in the kitchen door way talking & laughing, not even worrying about getting us boxes. HORRIBLE. WILL NOT...
