We made a request—an unusual one, perhaps—but to us, it was special. All we wanted was a single cupcake transformed into something a little more meaningful. We asked for a small portion to be removed from the bottom, a space for a bit of blue icing—any shade of blue—and then for it to be carefully put back together, hiding the vibrant surprise within. It wasn’t just a cupcake; it was a gesture of love, joy, and connection.
The young woman at the counter listened patiently and went to check if it was possible. When she returned, her answer was sharp and final: "No." They didn’t have the tools for such a request, she explained. No injector, no way to make it happen.
For a moment, I stood there, stunned. My gaze swept over the bakery—the tools, the equipment, the delicate decorations on cakes and cupcakes that must have required skill and precision. A hollow feeling crept in as I thought, How could they do all this and yet claim they couldn’t fulfill such a simple request? It didn’t make sense.
And then came the doubt—the uncomfortable feeling that it wasn’t about tools at all. Was it the way we looked? The clothes we wore? Did we not seem like customers worth their time? The rejection didn’t feel like a lack of resources. It felt personal, like we were dismissed, as though we didn’t belong in their polished little world.
The worst part was how everything changed after that. The gorgeous treats in the glass showcase, so tempting moments before, suddenly seemed lifeless—dry, uninspired, stripped of their magic. The warmth and excitement we’d felt as we stepped into the bakery were gone. We left, carrying more than disappointment; we carried the sting of being made to feel unworthy.
Down the street, at another bakery, our experience was the complete opposite. We explained our request—a simple one, really—and the staff didn’t hesitate. They smiled and made it happen, no questions, no excuses. We even bought more than we intended, drawn in by their kindness and willingness to help. That single cupcake, so small and simple, meant so much to us—and they understood that.
As for the first bakery, Edgars, it’s now a place tied to a memory of exclusion. Whenever the topic of bakeries comes up, we’ll share this story—not to seek revenge, but to let others know how it felt to be treated as if we didn’t matter. Because no one deserves to feel that way, especially over something as simple, as joyful,...
Read moreThis was truly the worst service I have ever seen in my life! My wife and I went here because she wanted a piece of chocolate cake for her birthday and I was going to get a sugar cookie. It's around 5 pm on a Wednesday. We go into line (no one is in front of us) and I find the sugar cookie I want while my wife looks over the cakes. We are the only customers in the line. After a minute it should have been clear by our posture that we were done browsing and were ready to order. There are 2 employees that look like they are slowly packing an order at the expo station, 2 employees that are in the line right next to us that appear to be doing inventory or something similar, another 2 employees that were walking to and from the kitchen to various parts of the store that looked to be checking/stocking displays, an employee (maybe on break) that was sitting at a table and eating something with a friend, and a cook behind the expo counter - all of which I can see and can see us. My wife and I wait for 5 minutes WITHOUT EVEN BEING ACKNOWLEDGED OR GREETED by anyone. Finally my wife asks the two expo people (inventory people had walked past us and into the kitchen), "Can we get some help please!?" Had it not been my wife's birthday, we would have left. My wife said her cake was "good". I skipped my cookie on principle that I personally won't support a business that can't train their employees to simply say, "Hi folks, we'll be with you in just a moment." I will emphasize that I don't mind a reasonable wait, but being COMPLETELY IGNORED for that amount of time is unacceptable.
As we pay a woman walked into the line behind us. I watched her wait for service for 15 MINUTES (yes I actually timed this on my watch while waiting for my wife to slowly eat her cake) before she was acknowledged by any of the 8 employees that I counted!
I would have preferred to have rated what looked to have been a tasty...
Read moreThis was my first experience with the bakery. The night before after dinner I stopped by because I heard so much about the strawberry cake. I saw the strawberry cake but then I noticed the caramel cupcake and couldn't decide. I asked the guy behind counter if they used the same ingredients for the cupcakes and cakes and he affirmed they did. So, I opted for the caramel and strawberry cupcakes. I had no plans to eat all of them both, but when I say that they were delicious... that's an understatement. I think it depends on your palate, but the caramel cupcake was the winner, for me. Only, because I don't like overly sweet desserts and that strawberry is very sweet. I then decided that I'd check them out for brunch when I saw they stopped serving breakfast at 2 pm on Saturdays. I didn't know what I wanted for brunch because the choices were so good. I decided on the Breakfast Handheld Ham & Bacon Cheddar Biscuit, Breakfast Potatoes and the Bacon Cinnamon Roll. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was delicious. I took the bacon cinnamon roll to go, but I tasted a piece of it and was not disappointed. Oh, and let me say the staff was very helpful, accommodating and friendly. We opted to sit outside for brunch and the atmosphere was amazing. The weather this time of year was a definite plus. I'm 100% positive that I'll be back during my next trip to Huntsville to try some of the other items on the menu. ...
