I recently saw a social media reel that I was so excited about and it made me so hungry. It featured the amazing Payton Walker from Tennessee Valley Living, exploring the vibes at Lola's Cocina. The food looked so delicious; Then, Phil Sandoval chimed in about bringing the Tex-Mex food and flavors from San Antonio, Texas, my mouth started watering even more and I knew I was in for a treat. I was overly excited, and was there the next day. Being in Huntsville for less than 2 yrs and being from San Antonio Texas I was so ready to try this place out. And they have Big Red soda too!! I walked in and had the pleasure of meeting Nick the Manager, related to Phil Sandoval. I believe he's also resided in San Antonio Texas at one point, so he knows the greatness of real Tex-Mex food. In order to try some of the Tex-Mex flavors and foods I'd say venture from the usual items ordered and ask which of these are the most Tex-Mex items on the menu: the Carne Guisada taco with or without cheese on flour tortilla, the Barbacos taco on corn tortilla, the Fideo Loco, Ceviche, the Crispy Dogs, and The Big Red!! Seeing these items on the menu took me back home. Staff member and cashier at the time Brody was very inviting and professional when my friends and I approached the counter to order. Ella was super sweet, professional, and very attentive wearing a beautiful smile that lit up the place.

Read moreCame here for lunch and it was extremely disappointing. We ordered the California burrito and the carne asada tacos. The menu clearly states that these meals come with chips and salsa. While at the register, they added an additional charge for chips and salsa on each order. I showed the girl at the counter the menu and she responded saying she doesn't think that's correct. It took way too long for a manager to come and remove the additional charges. What I want to know is how much money are they making off of these incorrect additional charges by asserting what is written on their own menu is incorrect?!
Now for the food, both of our orders came out lukewarm at best. The California burrito lacks the French fries that make a real California burrito. The steak in both of the orders was flavorful and delicious. The burrito was soggy and overloaded with what tasted like store bought jarred cheese. The tacos were extremely small and had barely any meat, they were mainly tortillas. The side of refried beans tasted like they were just dumped onto the dish from the can and the Mexican rice was completely bland.
Overall, a lunch for 2 costing $32 would have been better spent at Taco...
Read moreThis restaurant is among the better Mexican restaurants in the area. I ordered the taco combo, one carne azada taco and one birria taco. The birria taco was good, but the carne azada was pretty bland. I tried a piece of the meat by itself and it didn't taste seasoned at all. It tastes better once you add the Tampico salsa (I think that's what it was called), but even the salsa was a little underwhelming. We tried a few of the salsas, but none of them had the kick we wanted. Maybe they do have spicier ones, so we'll keep an eye out the next time we come back. The tortillas are freshly made, so it makes it taste more authentic. The pico de gallo and chips were good. The tres leches cake was a little dry and warm, which is odd since it's supposed to be served cold. The strawberry margarita I had was delicious! I wanted to try the horchata but it was $6, which is a little steep for me.
The service was amazing and the atmosphere was really laid back and chill. We went when it was very busy, so it did feel a little crowded at first. We still got our food pretty fast, so that was nice! The decor looks very nice and the staff did a great job of keeping it clean.
