I have no doubt Jakers was, at some point, an amazing, high end restaurant. This is no longer the case. The amount of money we spent here was more than any other restaurant in East Idaho, and the food was the worst we've ever tasted.
My husband and I have heard amazing things about Jakers for years, so we decided to give it a try. We were anticipating the high price tag, as well as amazing food. Only one of our anticipations were met.
For the appetizer we got the coconut prongs and those were delicious. I was shocked by how large they were. There were only 4, but we were ok with that, considering their size. If this was the only thing we'd gotten that night, this review would be a lot different.
Next we received our soup and salad. My husband got the ceaser salad and was disgusted by how soggy it was. He said he could have wrung it out. I got the clam chowder, which was a "premium side" 🙄🙄🙄, meaning it was an extra $2.50. I was disappointed by how tiny the bowl was, and even more disappointed after tasting it. It tasted like it came from a cafeteria. Not good.
Up next came the main course. My husband got the prime rib, which was amazing. They did a good job here. He also got the loaded fries (another $2.50 extra charge...) and they were underwhelming to say the least. Barely any cheese placed on top of a glob of sour cream over the fries.
My almond crusted chicken could have come from a diner. Nasty is the best word to describe it. It was served over rice, which barely made an appearance. With how cheap rice is, I would have expected more than the 1/4 cup I was given. Plus it was watery. I got the loaded baked potato (yet another premium side with a $2.50 upcharge). It was ok, but my husband gave me the sour cream from his fries to help it not be so dry.
The bright spot of the evening was our server. I wish I had taken note of her name, because she was very sweet, attentive, and kind. I appreciate the attention she gave us in the first part of our visit, and the freedom to eat and talk uninterrupted once our food arrived.
I'm leaving this review to show I care. I care about the good people of E. Idaho. Don't come here for your fancy dinners. Go anywhere else. It is not worth the $100 bill. Mitchell's or Smitty's would have served a...
Read moreMy husband and I were treating ourselves for a date night in the big city, and when we drive over from Wyoming, we love to eat our dinner at Jakers. We arrived just after they opened on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately by a nice hostess and then Melanie took care of us after that.
Melanie introduced herself and told us the daily specials. After a few minutes we were ready to order and Melanie quickly took down what we wanted and hurried off to put out order in and get our drinks.
For drinks my husband ordered the Purple Rain which had huckleberry vodka in it, with lime juice, fresh berries, and Sierra mist. It tasted good, but the alcohol was not very strong at all. I ordered the Caribbean margarita and in it you could definitely taste the tequila, unfortunately they put salt on the outside, instead of the sugar like the menu stated, and I felt like the salt detracted from the drink. So make sure if you want the sugar on the rim to speak up.
Our soups came out next with were both steaming hot and creamy. Hubby had the baked potato which is always tasty, and I had the clam chowder, yes it's an upcharge, but I feel it's worth it. The clam Chowder has great flavor and I always find a lot of clams in it.
Scones were fresh from the oven and melted in our mouths. We ended up with two baskets and we devoured them. So good! Always get the scones. They are worth every calorie.
Our entrees arrived and I had the prime rib. It comes sitting in a plate of au ju and also with horseradish on the side. The meat is always so tender and dipped in either sauce it tastes amazing. I also had a baked potato which comes with all the fixings and you just can't get a better potato in Idaho IMO.
Hubby got the Ribeye and holy smokes it was cooked to perfection. It has a fantastic flavor, great spices, and it just melts in your mouth. He also ordered the bacon wrapped brussel sprouts which are my favorite restaurant vegetable hands down and that sauce to dip them in that has that tiny bit of spice to it is absolutely divine.
The service is always excellent, food is always on point, the drinks were not the best we've had, but still good. We keep coming back time and time again because it is a great...
Read moreUPDATE Dear Mr. Jones, Thank you for reaching out regarding my review. I want to be clear about why I left a low rating.
My concerns stem from your decision to evict another business from your property—even after the issues had been resolved. That action appeared punitive and unnecessary, and it raised serious questions about how you handle relationships and conflict resolution. From a customer standpoint, it felt like a disregard for fairness and collaboration.
I understand that business decisions can be complex, but when those decisions impact others—especially when the situation had already been addressed—it reflects poorly on your values and leadership. My review was based on that experience and the message it sends to the community of Idaho Falls.
Unless there’s a compelling reason that changes the facts, I stand by my rating.
Sincerely, Mary
I had high expectations for this business based on their reputation, but I am absolutely appalled by the unprofessional decision they made recently regarding another local business. It’s disheartening to see such a lack of respect for other hardworking companies, especially in a community that thrives on mutual support. The actions taken by this business were not only unfair but also completely unnecessary, showing a complete disregard for the values of collaboration and ethical conduct that should guide any organization. It’s incredibly frustrating to witness a business act in such a shortsighted and damaging way—especially when their decision hurt another local business that has always tried to provide great service to the community. As a customer, I value integrity and the support of fellow small businesses. Unfortunately, after this incident, I can no longer support a company that would choose to undermine others instead of fostering goodwill. A business that doesn't stand by its fellow entrepreneurs does not deserve my trust or my business. I encourage others to carefully consider their decisions before supporting companies that are quick to act unprofessionally. Small businesses should be lifting each other up, not tearing...
