The food was tasty. Staff were all super friendly. We felt bad for the odd Hawaiian shirts/attire the staff had to wear. Didnt seem to fit the mood, menu or atmosphere. But hey, that's owners for ya. Cocktails were made proper. While the food was all executed well. I think my biggest shock was the very odd house salad - Cashew, salad shrimp, sweet house dressing, and romaine. While it wasnt awful, it was just an oddity, felt like a half-thought to provide something different over a normal house salad. Maybe it was just that our server forgot to bring it out with the meal, so to make up for it, mounded more shrimp on, which threw off whatever balance was supposed to be there. The only reason to speak of the house salad, is to talk about the beautiful mixed greens, and black berry? Dark berry vinaigrette of some kind? Mini salad that they give on steak and combo plates. You get like two bites of it, but amazing dressing. Our server said that dressing wasnt even listed on the menu! Whoever created that sauce did well, owners need to let that sauce shine more. The mud pie was amazing and massive btw! Patio has great views and you can go walk the greenbelt next to the river after your meal. Was a very pleasant evening, worth a shot when visiting Idaho Falls.

*skip to the bottom for dining recommendations * The sandpiper is probably the finest dining you can experience in Idaho falls. The sandpiper makes amazing seafood, and steaks with great sides and a great atmosphere. I noticed a lot of people complained about the wait time it took to get their food. You have to remember this is fine dining where the food is made and cooked to order! This is not fast food or a chain like Texas road house. They spend a lot of time prepping the food they serve before opening for dinner service, and they run out of food because it’s made each day. With that out of the way let’s talk about the food. My wife and I visited for our second wedding anniversary and we’re not disappointed!! I got the rack of lamb which was cooked perfectly (med rare) and tasted absolutely delicious. The clam chowder is incredible!! My wife got the surf and turf with the halibut which she highly recommends. Overall the sandpiper is a great spot for some unique delicious food with a great atmosphere. It’s a bit expensive but you get what you pay for! What we loved: Rack of lamb (med rare) Steak Halibut Clam chowder The house salad Huckleberry lemonade Spinach artichoke dip What was “meh” Cheese cake left a lot to be desired for the price.

2024: Still a great place to eat. Had the Halibut and filet again. The filet was much better. The mashed potatoes were 1/3 of what they were and the halibut 1/2, but it was normal portions. No more yummy bread. They switched to rolls which were fine but not like the bread. Salad was great as well. Still love the view and makes this somewhere I would go over other places because of that. The waitress was fabulous as well. Overall about the same. 2020: This was a great place to eat. Loved the patio. Nice view if Porter Canal and Snake River. Staff was fantastic. The steamed clam appetizer was excellent, sour dough bread was good. Clam chowder was good. The Entre I had was 8 oz filet (med rare) and the halibut with garlic mashed potatoes. Filet was good (a tad bland). There was a ton of mashed potatoes and very good. The halibut was a bit overcooked and bland. Would not get it again. I would eat here again.

Being from out of town we ate here years ago so we decided to try it again. I agree with others that it has a very dated atmosphere, we were given the option of indoor or patio seating, we chose indoor. The chairs are old school barrel style and hard as heck, next time I’m bringing my butt pillow! Our waiter was good, they were out of the one appetizer we wanted, no biggie. Our food came super fast, as soon as our appetizer had arrived, here came our salads-before we were finished our main dish’s had arrived. Again no biggie, in my eyes it was better than being super slow or never arriving at all! Another server dropped off our main dishes and disappeared before I could ask for more butter for my baked potato. My husband gave me his. My steak was delicious and the potato was good, not super hot as was the hollandaise sauce that came with my appetizer, luke warm. As we finished courses our plates piled up, nobody came to remove them until our waiter showed up to ask if we wanted desert. We didn’t as we were full. They have new hand held devices that take your order right at the table and are also able to tell you right then and there if something is out, I found this nice as in the past you normally waited until the waiter went back to the kitchen and found out something was out and then had to return to your table to inform you, so that was nice. At the bottom of the menus it says you can receive a discount if you pay in cash. It does not state how much. My husband hates credit cards and always pays in cash, so when our waiter finally came by our cluttered table and we said no desert he promptly pulled out his hand held device and handed it to my husband. He said we are paying in cash and the waiter said oh, ok. Our bill had come to 133.00. We had no drinks, I had ice water. My husband handed him 150 dollars, and the waiter said would you like any change? My husband said no that’s good, and the waiter said “is seventeen dollars ok”? And my husband said yes, I then noticed the waiter shoot me a look,I wasn’t sure exactly why, was he wanting me to intervene? I got the distinct feeling that the waiter was miffed by the 17 dollar tip. I was very uncomfortable and it has bothered me since so this is why I’m writing today. The waiter didn’t come right out and say anything, but he implied…… I have never in my entire life had this happen when dining out, and yes I’ve been in the service industry my entire life. I know the tipping culture has gotten way out of control, but when we left I was bothered by the whole interaction. And what about the discount for paying in cash? Our waiter never said anything about that, was it added into his 17 dollar tip? Don’t know. We will be back but in the future will be more outspoken about the entire procedure. I really didn’t feel we had exceptional service, it was ok, but not great, and by the way it wasn’t very busy that night. If I’m out of line I feel bad, but our waiter made me feel bad when we left and has ever since. Our dinner should have been something enjoyable to remember,...

We made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner. Never having been to a restaurant before for Thanksgiving I wasn't sure what to ecpect. I explained to the hostess when I made the reservation that we wanted the all you can eat dinner, no problem. We get there and we were seated right away. The hostess left us with menus and asked if we wanted the wine list, I said yes. Then we didn't see anyone for a good 10 minutes. Our waiter came over and I'm not sure what happened but he went brain dead. He did not explain our choices, such as salad, rolls, then dinner. We ordered our wine and beer and waited again. I asked if there was a special menu for the turkey/ham dinner and I was told no. So I said I would like the turkey dinner. We were brought 2 plates full of turkey, stuffing, 2 different cranberries, ham, sweet potatoes (no marshmellows), and no vegetable. I watched as everyone was getting salads and rolls before their plates of food and I asked our waiter if he forgot ours. He said we were supposed to ask for them?????? How in the heck was I supposed to know that. So I asked if he could bring our rolls and salad. By the time we got the salad we were full and pretty much done. Exactly 1 hour from the time we sat down and ate to when we paid the ticket had passed. I was so dissappointed. We then had to ask for our sliver of pumpkin pie. Never again. The food tasted delicious, but at $23 a plate, plus $10 for beverages (1 glass of wine and a Bud in the bottle) total of almost $58 for 2 dinners, I will go to Denny's next time. The wait staff is useless. I'm not going to a restaurant again that can't train their waitstaff on the basic customer service skills. We should have not had to ASK...

We went there for a salad and a steak. My wife ordered a chicken salad with no blue cheese. I ordered the $33 New York. My steak was over cooked and at least 30% fat. It was only about 1/2" thick and was probably the worst steak in 10 years and had a very small "loaded" potato with 4 small bacon bits. My wifes salad had blue cheese. We got the waitress and she said it won't take long because they will just put the chicken on a new salad. We told her that it was an allergy and that wouldn't work because there was blue cheese on top of the chicken. I was COMPLETELY done esting for a good 5 min and the waitress cleared my plate before her food showed up. It was correct this time. The drinks were very weak especially since they are higher than any other steak house. They did not offer any discount, dessert, no manager stopped by, and the waitress never checked back after her food was dropped off until she left the check. She got 2 stars because she was great until we had to send the food back.

This once was our go to good food good drink place(some years weekly). Sadly after Ron left and passed away it has gone down hill in a hurry. The staff has changed, no consistancy in drinks or food, and the relaxed atmosphere is gone.

Less impressed everytime we go back.Sad to say Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse beat them 10 outta 10. Nothing more than over priced below average food n drink. $140 for dinner and we have had better several places...
