What can I say besides I.B. is my hometown and I'm finally back home after 26 years of being several states away. Ye Olde Plank Inn just gets better every time I go there, which hasn't been too often lately in my absence. Its quaint beachy town, almost right on the ocean location is the perfect first stop when you arrive in Imperial Beach, California. You would run right into this place if you didn't park your car and go inside, which is what I would suggest to try first. A very friendly door man greeted me and told me masks are required and my small dog is welcome but we have to sit in their outdoors area. That was OK by me that day and even tho my dog is a service dog he didn't mind having to sit in the outdoor area that day either.. . Drinks are drinks so I had a shot with a sprite back. The bartender was super friendly That time when i visited the plank. Inside this place is trimmed with old barn wood and has pool tables plus their outdoor seating area has 2 pretty big T.V.sets. That visit went well and I enjoyed myself as I used to when I'd go there back in the day of my being a young adult. There was a good crowd for a Tuesday night. I wonder if the place still rocks jam packed on the weekends like it used to more than 25 years ago?! I also remember this place being here when I was a kid in the 60s and I used to ride my bike down to the beach. Signed, Patricia A.
Update: The next time I came into Ye Old Plank Inn my experience did not go so well due to the totally uncalled for rudeness of the Friday evening Bartender. Better watch yourself around him is all I have to say. I can't think of a thing that I did to trouble this guy but he treated me as if I weren't welcome there at all. So I drank my drink and left. Not sure if I'll ever go back with a bartender who treats customers that badly for no reason. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for a moment and say- He must have mistook me for somebody else. Thats for sure. Signed, a very displeased customer who didn't deserve a bad treatment like that. He got no tip and I don't mind saying that he certainly didn't...
Read moreI am an Active duty nurse in the navy and prior enlisted veteran with PTSD. I have a PTSD service dog given to by the VA. Robert, the greasy haired door man refused entry to me and my service companion. Currently I am shaking from my conditions and anxiety while typing this. My furry best mate has A collar Stating his name, service animal, PTSD. He has a button stating "PTSD service animal, please ask to pet". He also has affixed 2 Service Dog red insignia with the federal ADA law on each. I showed Robert my military ID. Robert stated that he represented the owner and management by saying they do not allow service animals into their establishment. Even for veterans. I made certain that he was clear on this point and that he didn't want me to speak to a manager or the owner before stating this. He said he could refuse entrance to him just like a person. By refusing Insurance to my service animal you are this refusing entrance to me. A normal 30 year old Navy veteran, still currently serving, who is stone cold sober and just wanted a beer. Avoid this place at all costs. I walked behind it and realize there was a large amount of rats in garbage so I would be very hesitant to drink from any glass here or eat any food. Certain government services should probably actually pay this establishment a visit. So far in my year I have spent in San Diego and count was bars I've gone into with my service dog who is beloved at several bars I frequent, I have never once been refused service or the left the business...
