Being a restaurant off Gulf Blvd I knew it wasn't going to be good and touristy but decided to try it out anyways. I mean if anything at all the spam masubi must be okay right?? So my gf and I went in with absolutely no customers. We saw two staff members staring down on their phones. We stood around for a couple minutes just staring at them wondering if we should leave. Finally one decided to look at us and take our orders. We ordered a loco moco, poke bowl, and a spam masubi. The spam masubi first came out and the waiter tells us to not eat the plastic that's wrapped around the masubi. On top of that he tells us that he's serious and has to make such a disclosure. Anyhow the masubi was hot because it just came from a microwave. It wasn't that impressive. I prefer my masubi rice mixed with some furikake. The poke bowl came sitting on top of the bowl with the rice. Yes the bowl was literally sitting on top of the rice! In what world are they taught to serve like this? Terrible! At least the poke was seasoned well. Now on to the loco moco. This is an extremely easy dish to make. It's literally supposed to be an over easy egg on top of hamburger meat over a bed of rice and brown gravy all over. Well what we got was far from this. The meat had a funny smell to it while being cooked to death. The eggs were over cooked and literally black on the bottom. How do you mess up cooking an over easy egg? The gravy was what finally did it. It was flavorless and watery. It didn't bind anything together. Absolutely disgusting. It also came with some bland, horrific macaroni salad. The waiter gave us a punch card for a free meal the next time around but I don't think I'll be making a trip out to Indian Rocks beach for what is clearly not Hawaiian food. It's possible that some of their other foods may be okay or even good to eat. However I don't have much hope considering that they can't even make easy, staple...
Read moreIn the world of culinary exploration, there are rarely times when you can call the visit a true "experience". Today we had an "experience". Mother Nature changed our day plans from an outdoor festival to a day of cruising Gulf Blvd and trying this place after stumbling on it searching Google Maps. Amazing how that happens sometimes.
First, this is a slow time of the year on the beach, plus the weather was cruddy today. So, it wasn't unexpected that the place wasn't busy when we arrived.
What was unexpected was overwhelming warm feeling of Aloha upon arrival, followed by some of the best simple food we have ever devoured.
Clearly the man and woman running the establishment today were the owner and head "chef", based on our conversations.
I had the Big Kahuna Platter (3 meats) with rice and macaroni salad (Hawaiian style, not "Southern"). Simply amazing! She had the Shoyu Chicken which was also part of my platter, but amazing none-the-less.
We each had a Spam Musubi which is a culinary trip you simply have to take! Love it!
They presented us with a generous free sampling of their Spam Fried Rice...Mind blown! You MUST try it!
So, overall it was one of those rare moments when every aspect of the visit simply fit together and everything was perfect.
It's a small place, but I can see where they do a good business, and we will be sure to return soon...that breakfast menu with Guava Pancakes is...
Read moreBorn and raised in Hawaii, So I know my Hawaiian foods and I give this little Hawaiian plate lunch place 5 Supa stars ladat kine. The first time I came here about 3 years ago, I was kinda schetchy since I've been to a few places in Florida that claimed to be a Hawaiian food restaurants but was far from it. I thought I'd never get Hawaiian food again but then this hot Asian chick recommended Aloha to go, since me being from Hawaii, I told her I gave up hope for there to ever be real Aunthentic Hawaiian food here in Florida, but I gave it a shot and Im glad I did because I've been there every time since whenever I'm at the beach and in the area. The first thing I tried was the musubi, something to test the waters and if good and she whom I found out was the owner can make one authentic ono sushi I try other dishes. Well it was really good but was missing one thing that I always put when I make my own musubis, and I told her there good but missing something and she knew exactly what I was talking about and said she just puts it on if the customer request it, because some people don't like it which is a seasoning called "Furikake" so she then sprinkled a little on my musubi and that was it, the buggah was what we say Bomb!! From that day until now I would have tried every dish and they all Onoliciuos. I just like to say Mahalo owner girl I foget your name, but thanks for bringing the Aloha to Go to...
