Man O' Man... We LOVED City BBQ. We came to Indi for a last ditch weekend away over SpringBreak... and we wanted some dinner after a long day at the Childrens Museum... A family vote landed us at City BBQ.
Upon arrival, the parking lot was nearly empty (which 'can' be a red flag) Olive Garden was packed and Red Lobster seemed busy, but why wasn't this BBQ spot busy... NO CLUE.
Since we were 'vacationing...' I wanted to get a photo with me and my son next to the BIG City BBQ painting on the wall outside... and as we were squatting down to get a photo, an employee walked over from behind the building. I casually asked him what was good here, and he passionately began to go down the list of Pastrami, and Turkey and Ribs... I told him the turkey sounded good. He assured me everything was great...
Likely story.
But he wasn't lying... OMG... we got the turkey, (I did) My 10 year old got a generous half slab of ribs (he ate 3) and my wife got the half a chicken... And it was ALL amazing...!!!
The half a chicken would have been enough for all 3 of us. It was huge..!! The Turkey was amazing, and my kid loved the ribs...!! They had a nice selection of sauces... The 'original' was my favorite.
And then before we left, I even approached the staff behind the counter and said, I was surprised yall arent super busy... that was amazing..!! And the guys told me they were plenty busy throughout the day. They were all smiling and gracious.
The same guy we met outside was in the lobby helping a guest and he asked us if everything was okay. We told him it was amazing...and he told us how he worked for a donut shop chain (name left out to be kind) but he said it was all premade and packaged... and had no soul. lol. VS City BBQ... he said they smoke the ribs themselves... and you could tell he took a certain amount of pride in his work.
It was our favorite food stop in quite a while. We may just make the 2 and a half hour drive back to Indi just to have City BBQ again.... LOVED this place.
Thanks again for the service and...
Read moreI don’t know how a restaurant can screw up ribs and their associated sides so badly… but congrats City BBQ, ya did it.
I received the blandest, chewiest ribs I’ve had since my friend screwed up a batch on the grill years ago and we tried to cheer him up by choking a couple down lol. Every sauce has way too much sugar, including the mustard-based one. You probably shouldn’t be eating at a rib restaurant if you have blood sugar issues, but man, even if you are having a cheat day, you’ll feel bad the rest of the day from the glucose spike.
My God, how can you screw up corn bread, macaroni, and collared greens so bad? The bread left an aftertaste of artificial flavoring and Crisco. The macaroni tasted like it had been prepared with slightly sour milk… like, not completely turned, but pushing the limit. It’s difficult to describe… but the taste of these two items just had this underlying flavor of “seepage” like an old man with diarrhea. The collared greens were sharp and made my gums bleed. They just plopped in huge chunks of flavorless, chewy ham — a nasty and pointless addition. These sides are the easiest, most “no brainer” items to prepare for a BBQ cookout. How did they turn out so… weird? Boston Market has better mac and cornbread, if that tells you anything.
I didn’t realize this was a national chain before I ordered, which explains everything. I gave it two stars because I didn’t want to waste the food… I was able to eat enough of it to qualify it as dinner… don’t spend your...
Read moreAfter working all the way on the west side of Indianapolis, and since I was starving coz I worked through lunch, I decided to treat myself to City BBQ and head to the Hotel I've been put up in since a house fire. For a change, I got the Nashville Hot sandwich... and it is terrible. CRIMINALLY so! It's thin, heavily battered and overcooked to the point where shoe leather would be more appetizing. You know, things haven't been going well lately, but I've been eating City BBQ since the only location was a family owned spot on Main Street in Reynoldsburg, Ohio and the little grandbabies were wiping tables and filling the salt and pepper shakers while the Grandparents cooked delicious food. If they're still living they'd regret selling the name, as this sandwich obliterates every bit of what feeding customers a good meal meant to that hard working family and what they put into the name outside of that place with the red and white tablecloths. The service at the drive thru was impeccable, however. I just wish I wasn't hungry but, too tired to go find something else to eat as I sit in this room, missing my home and belongings as if things weren't bad enough these days. BUT, NOW I KNOW THAT I SHOULD HAVE GONE NEXT DOOR TO POPEYE'S FOR A CHICKEN SANDWICH!!! And, from...
