Cousins Subs — Restaurant in Indianapolis

I was really excited to have a new sub place in the area as we spend long weekends here for our studio. The food is actually good but each time I’ve come the service has been less than subpar. It always seems like they haven’t had enough training, can’t answer any questions without it taking forever to figure out, always say they have computer reset issues and it takes forever for food to come out. I went through drive through this time thinking it might be a bit quicker but it took MUCH longer as he kept having to look on computer for questions I had and he kept missing items I would say. I ordered a sub, a drink and chips and saw on the menu that you could make it a meal so I asked him and he said well we’d have to add a cookie on, I said oh but would it save me money? He said yeah about $4. Then why wouldn’t you have suggested that to me in the first place or told me a meal was an option?????? I don’t understand. You’re new and it’s likely people ordering aren’t familiar with your menu yet so help out a little. I was frustrated because I really enjoy the food.

As I was finishing ordering a guy wearing a cousins shirt got out of his car vaping walking in the back door realizing there were cars behind me and I assume thinking oh, my coworker might need help.

Just not impressed with staff. Sad because food is good. I LOVE the variety of options for sides.

Edit: I waited a total of 21 minutes for my food after the 10 it took...

I only went here because it looked like a new spot that I hadn't tried before plus they were offering buy one get one free subs if you downloaded the app. I'm not really sure how someone can mess up a sandwich experience so badly. First of all, the restaurant smelled ABSOLUTELY AWFUL (like raw sewage) to the point that I had to go outside to wait for my sandwich because I was getting nauseous. The workers claimed that the business next door was doing sulfur testing. I decided to still support them because I understand that days like this are tough for businesses and they probably had a lot of people turn away because of the smell. NEVER AGAIN! The food was grossly under portioned, the sandwich bread was a weird texture, they forgot to add lettuce to one of my sandwiches, and everything was just overall bland and completely unimpressive. Even my 8 year old son complained about the mac n cheese and didn't finish it, which is unheard of for him. He said this place needs to stop focusing on what they look like from the outside (the restaurant looks new and hip) but focus on making actual good food. When I asked if they give me a bottle of water for my nausea or a side of fries for all of the trouble the worker said I could have a cup of tap water. I’ve eaten here a few times now. Ordered the Italian sub twice, Pepperoni Melt, and CheeseSteak.

Honestly, the food is ok but Jersey Mike’s, Penn Station, and Jimmy John’s are a step above it in quality. This places food reminds me of Capriotti’s but not quite as tasty if that makes sense. In addition, I found the macaroni and cheese to be simply “ok” but not great and overpriced at $4+ for a relatively small container.

The Italian was my favorite sub and I had it with hot pepper relish. The pepperoni melt was disappointing. It wasn’t bad per se but nothing outstanding.

As for the service it has been fast and friendly. The staff seem to love their job. Although, they aren’t busy at all right now when I’ve visited.

Edited to add I’ve eaten here a few more times and of 4 orders I asked for NO LETTUCE, 3 of the 4 had lettuce on them!

In addition, every time I order the Italian and ask for No Lettuce and add Hot Pepper Relish they forget one or both things! And it’s not like they’re busy when I go there lol usually I’m the only customer!
