First, I wanted to start off by saying our server Wren was above and beyond. She was amazing at her job and really worked the room. So please be sure to share that because she was absolutely amazing and did so much to make our visit exceptional. She was running around checking in on if anyone needed drinks, she was being engaging and fun, she was listening and was just overall amazing.
I also want to add that this was a company event and so we were a bigger group that had rented out a room. However, when we first entered the building, we were greeted by a not so nice hostess. She rolled her eyes at us as we entered and then gave us the wrong time for our event start which caused some panic. Once part of my group entered Showroom 1 I had numerous people from my group enter afterwards and gave feedback that the hostess was directing the team to the wrong showroom. I went up to correct her and she again was very rude and unwelcoming. I then just stood at the door guiding everyone, so they didn't have that bad taste in their mouths with getting a greeting like that.
Then, as we had a group of 39, we did end up increasing by 2 people at the last minute, so we ended up having 41 guests. We had 41 guests and 1 server the whole night. Who was also bartending for us, making drinks, running the team building, and doing everything else. Again, I want to STRESS that Wren was amazing, we had no idea she was doing all of that alone and she was doing the very best she could. She kept customer service at the forefront and made the experience way better then it could have been.
With that being said, we did add two extra people to the headcount without realizing. However, we had at least 10 people who did not get to eat because they ran out of food. I don't know if they thought each person should only get one piece of meat. But the chicken and ribs were not big enough to fill a child's stomach, so I am not sure the mindset there. When I asked if there was another tray of the meat we could have they advised they only made enough for 39 people. Which I understood, however we didn't have enough food for 10 people so that number also didn't seem right to me. We had mainly females at the event so I think my feedback would be portion control may need to be looked at. If I had mainly males in attendance, we would have had ALOT more guests not eating. I just felt like in all my years of experience its very rare even if there is more guests then intended that a place runs out of food. This leads me to - we did ask how fast it would take to make items off the menu which they then advised they were slower that night and it would take no time at all. My feedback then would be if they were indeed slower to bring some more servers in. Wren was RUNNING and doing her best but since she was making all the drinks and everything else there were times where we waited 10-20 minutes before, we saw her again. The manager only came in to assist while she was calculating the scores for the winners but that is the only help, she received that whole time.
Lastly, I will add that the activity was not updated and because Wren was doing all of these things we didn't start our activity until 20-30 minutes after the hour. When we were given the sheets there were games that she advised were no longer in store or that weren't even built yet. So, it did appear to my group that this was not a well thought out event.
I know I've mentioned it numerous times, but Wren was what made the night. If she hadn't been as great as she was I think a bad experience would've been turned into a nightmare. Our company values customer service and providing world-class support and so I feel confident in saying she was the world-class support, but it was unfair that she was the only one providing...
Read moreI’m a southsider, and this was my first time visiting the Castleton location after being a regular in Greenwood for the better part of a year now. While there were several highlights that made my visit worthwhile, I do have to mention some drawbacks.
Let’s start with the positives. Presentation-wise, this facility was excellent. Same theming and decor I expect from D&B, but the layouts of both the game and dining areas had such a clear structure and, thankfully, a lot of breathing room. As someone who’s used to Greenwood’s smaller, congested layout, this was a breath of fresh air. My only critique is that the lighting in the WIN zone was pretty dismal, but ultimately a minor distraction.
Secondly, several games that have given me problems in Greenwood were programmed and calibrated perfectly here! Games like the Guardians ticket coaster and Minions Jelly Lab, which I usually need to waste a few credits aligning my strike points, worked perfectly. Same goes for Ghostbusters. The game in Greenwood must not be calibrated correctly, and as such it is near, if not fully, impossible to win the Stay Puft bonus. This location however, I was able to get it on the second try! Perhaps the machine was simply ready to pay out a Jackpot, but I personally think it was no coincidence it took going to this location to win.
Those highlights aside, there are some unfortunate drawbacks I must mention. It seems for every game that worked perfectly and gave me no troubles, there was one, perhaps even two games, that did not work right or at all. Games like Fishbowl Frenzy, which had no signage indicating any malfunctioning, ate my credit. The screen for Pop the Lock started flashing and glitching out on me about half way towards the bonus, which essentially made it impossible for me to win. And the Star Trek coin pusher? Forget about it. Most of the sides of the machine would jam in the middle of your play, and even after staff tried fixing it, there were still issues. It’s also worth noting that whoever restocked the trading cards must’ve done so incorrectly, seeing as there were an inordinate number of Tribbles cards (which is supposed to be the rare card in the deck). And by inordinate, I made one side had 7, then later 8! And hey, as a player, it’s not like I’m complaining about being able to stock up on rare coin pusher cards… is what I would say if the machine didn’t eat my money.
Overall, I would say my experience was ultimately a positive one. While there were some bizarre technical issues, the highlights definitely made the distance worth it. And I’ll definitely be back if only to take advantage of the Castleton-exclusive games like Kung Fu Panda and Megastacker. I just hope that, in the future, I experience fewer technical issues. And if I do, I would gladly raise my rating from a 3...
Read moreWe had our kids skip their afternoon classes and made the 2.5 hour drive to Indy for my son's birthday. Stopped by the record store, Top Golf, Cheesecake Factory, and then Dave & Busters.
Dave & Busters did their best to ruin a great day with the family. My kids spent about $60 to play games. My youngest loves the baseball speed gun game. He was throwing too hard and it wouldn't register a lot of his throws. Right down the middle and it consistently didn't read over 80 mph. He did get it to say 80 once. They had a lot of fun playing games.
I got tired and a little hungry and sat down in the dining area. There were two people eating in the dining area but otherwise empty. A server stopped by and asked if I wanted anything. I had been looking for something vegan on my phone but had no luck. I asked about chips and salsa but she wasn't sure. She left and came right back to let me know they didn't have chips and salsa but they did have chips and guacamole. I'm like, hey, that's even better! I order that and a soda.
She asked me to move to the bar area which I did. She asked me if I minded to pay early and I said that is fine. It ended up being $11+ after tip. She then disappeared, presumably had finished her shift and left .
Soon after my wife and kids walk up and they're ready to go. It's late and we have a 2.5 hour drive home. We end up waiting at least 45 minutes after being told a few times it'd be right up. I actually suspected they sent someone to the store for avacado. I saw one employee leave and return 15 minutes later with a shopping bag. Maybe she didn't go get avacados because I still didn't get chips and guacamole.
I ended up talking to some other staff and asked if we could cancel the order because we really needed to go. It was a Wednesday and we intended to send our kids to class in the morning. They did go to school the next day but were super tired since we got home later than we planned. The staff went back and checked about canceling. We waited and waited, watched them as they talked, were on the radio with the kitchen and then finally a manager comes over. We ask the manager to cancel and he leaves, comes back with a card, and says the order was canceled and the money paid would be refunded back to my credit card. He also gave us a Dave & Busters card with about $15 in points
It's been a couple of weeks and I paid bills yesterday. Looking through my transactions I realized I was never refunded. I called customer service and explained everything to them. They were unable to issue a refund but were going to contact the store and have them refund it and keep me updated on the situation via email. She was very nice.
I won't bother coming back to this Dave & Busters. Disappointing end to a really fun day...
