We had reservations for 10 people at 6:30, we had 6 adults and 4 children, 13,10,7 and 2. It was a busy night and it started nicely we got our drink order and everything went downhill from there. Our waiter came by about a half hour after delivery the drinks and we ordered 4 appetizers for the table but now most of our drinks are empty and the smaller children are getting restless. Thirty minutes later we got our appetizers but still no refills. Now we have been here for an hour and have yet to order our meals, then when we asked we were told the kitchen was backed up. We were seeing folks that came in after us get there food and some had even paid their bills and left. After an hour and 10 minutes we order and flag down some to get refills. Another 30 minutes goes by, now we have been in this restaurant for 1 hour and 40 minutes. The young ones are getting very tired of sitting at a table. At 2 hours we received our meals. The 10 year old ordered a corn dog and it was not only burnt but the cornbread outside had burst open and the cornbread was soaked in oil, not edible. An adult ordered a ribeye medium rare and it was well done. My wife ordered a petite filet and it was cooled nicely but as she started eating, she pulled a 6 inch hair from the crust of the steak and so much had gone on by this time she said we can't wait any longer so we will just let it go but didn't eat anymore steak. We were going to see the lights at the state fairgrounds and for our tickets it started at 8:00 thinking an hour and a half at the restaurant would be enough time, but through all the debacle it was now 8:50. So after spending almost $200 for us to eat 6 meals between us and 4 appetizers, 3 meals could not be eaten, they did re-make the corn dog and the ribeye but it is pretty bad to take 2 hours and 30 minutes to eat a meal and 3 of the 6 delivered inedible. Won't be back and then our youngest 2 got on the dance floor and was dancing and playing around and we got scolded by the management because they were doing that. This place used to be great but not on my list of places to...
Read moreThis place feels like it should smell like cigarettes and have a roulette table in the back. I love it.
It has an older client base (not a bad thing) and therefore tries to be multiple things at the same time. At a glance of the menu it looks very affordable, and especially with the steak and seafood selection. However, a lot of the meat cuts are not very appealing, and the seafood is often battered instead of grilled (you could probably ask for just grilled).
This place is essentially a sports bar with leather booths and steakhouse lighting. The apps and cheaper “staple foods” are good, but the steak is mediocre at best.
I did the surf and turf and the New York strip was 1/3 fat and various colors depending where I was cutting in the meat. The scallops were good, but battered. I would’ve asked for grilled had I known the default procedure was battering. Maybe I’m the odd one out.
For apps my partner and I got the fried mushrooms and shrimp cocktail. Like I said, the apps and cheaper foods are good. (Typical sports bar food). While your typical upscale foods like steak and seafood; quality wise, stay within the price range of those collecting Social Security.
Service was decent. Only down side is we never got our waters topped off. Food comes out quick too. No longer than a 15 minute wait.
No drinks, 2 apps, and 2 entrees (one entree was the $30 surf and turf). I’d say this place is relatively affordable. Our total price was $82 before tip. You could probably take a date here for around $65 before tip.
Overall, this seems like a place you get mozzarella sticks and few beers at and watch a football game rather than get a steak and impress...
Read moreThis is the Middle Class version of 5 Star dining! The menu is well priced. The quality lies somewhere between Outback Steakhouse and a home cooked meal by parents that can cook. The restaurant is clean, slightly upscale in decor, but simple enough that you could feel in place in dress down attire. The bar area was inviting with the usual selections. Service was a bit on the undertrained side. We were greeted quickly by a host that could not prioritize order of operations between three sets of guests. Our server, while VERY polite and friendly, was not timely throughout the entire experience. We were dining with family we had not seen in months, so conversation kept this less noticeable to most of our party (6 guests). They never failed to fulfill our needs. Just needed a bit more organisation to the execution of service. Steaks were well seasoned and prepared at proper temperature.
If you are seeking an authentic neighborhood feel where you can feel at home for any occasion, great food, fair value pricing, and decent service, Murphy's is a true Indianapolis staple worthy of a visit (and another, and another...) We...
