When I was growing up, Longs Donuts in Haughville was the talk of the town especially within the minority groups of Indianapolis, and rumored to be undefeatable in Taste, Texture, and Selection.
With lines wrapping around tattered blocks for as far as the smell of the freshly baked pastries could reach, it had seemed during my entire childhood that Longs Donuts had virtually no competition, until one day I walked into this particular Bakery for the first time a month ago and everything I thought I knew about donuts had changed dramatically.
As I opened and walked through the door for the first time I was welcomed by the affectionate embrace of modern simplicity within the establishment and the intoxicating smell of glazed perfection, followed by the warm greeting of one of the cashier's.
Thinking of Longs I had to be careful with another donut shop entering my heart so quickly and decided that one donut would be enough to test the waters. I decided on the Buttermilk Donut as that was the one that was referred to me. The staff member was helpful during the checkout process and so everything went as smoothly as I'd hope, so that I could hurry and devour the Gem that id just acquired.
With the immense anticipation I had from personal fans of the establishment I slid the donut out of the neat brown paper bag and was immediately blessed with the most pleasing aroma. I lifted it to my eyes and I swore that God himself was shining light on this one particular donut as it sparkled and I took my very first bite of Pana Perfection.
Crispy on the tooth and soft at the tongue, it was in that very moment that I realized that my visit to Pana Donuts was a bucket list worthy experience that id been missing for a large portion of my life and a piece of me had been found that I couldn't lose and had to hold on to...
Read moreI went in the first week they opened, ordered a half dozen donuts that was comprised of a variety of donuts. The Boston Creme donut was well filled, the donut itself was light and not overly sweet and the chocolate frosting was velvety and delicious. Probably one of the best custard filled donuts in town.
As good as it was it was not as good as the apple fritter. The fritter was smaller than ones you may buy at the store or a competing donut place, but it tasted 10 times better than anyone you could buy. There were small to medium chunks of cinnamon apples mixed into the dough that gave the donut an extra punch of apple taste and it was cooked to the point where there was a slight crunch to the edges but the middle remained soft. The glaze was light and not overly sweet so I could eat the whole thing in one sitting without getting sweetness overload.
I do not care for lemon filled donuts, but I purchased one for my wife since she is a huge fan. There was quite a bit of lemon filling in the donut and I tried a bit to see what it was like and I was pleasantly surprised it didn’t have that artificial chemical taste that a lot of lemon filling that other places have in their filling.
The staff was nice and welcoming. I was greeted with a wide smile as soon as I walked through the door and I was immediately asked what they could get for me today. I was served by a young man who pleasantly fulfilled my order perfectly and quickly.
I plan to go back many more times based on the quality of the product and the welcomeness of the environment. Beech Grove finally has an independent donut shop that is in the same tier as...
Read moreWell been going there for a while now, I usually get breakfast sandwiches. Today I ordered a hot ham and cheese on a toasted croissant. The girl taking my order didn't say we don't do that so when she hands me my sandwich it's cold ham and cheese on dry toast. I give it back to the girl and tell her I wanted a hot sandwich, another girls comes up there and ask what I ordered I told her she says oh we don't do any hot sandwiches for lunch they are all served cold. It would mess everything up try to serve lunch sandwiches like we do our breakfast sandwiches. So I ask for a refund. Got the refund kind of , it was less then what I gave them but by now I was just irritated. So from now on I will take my business somewhere else because they couldn't put ham and cheese in microwave or toast...
