Extra Space Storage — Local services in Indianapolis

So my experience with them is the following:

The facility is super clean. Once I got my unit not a dirt or dust bunny in there. So it is well maintained.

I like that it is gated storage and well lite at night.

After my 3 month stay with them they asked about my experience the one thing that I didn't like is the hours to use the facility is the gates stop working for you at 10pm.. I mentioned that to her and she said that they can authorize a one day 24 hour pass to your unit if you need.

During the initial call staff/management were friendly. I didn't know what size to get so they reserved two sizes for me to let me decide.

I also like that there are not contracts but that also means that they aren't locking you into a price :)

Things to be aware of..

They offer good pricing upfront and will go up over time. They say it's nothing drastic but I was only there for 3 months and it was constant for those 3 months. Just ask them about it on your initial inquiry they are honest about it as I asked.

Another thing to be aware of. They will tell you and use what we do in a sales call which is "Tie Down" language... They will say the following - "Now we do require that you have insurance on your items that are being stored. We have an option for 3K insurance plan that adds X amount oto your monthly or we have 5K insurance plan that adds X amount to your monthly.. Which one works best for you? So that is a tie down tieing you down to one of those options. What they didn't say is that you can get your own insurance and that is what works for me. But you sign a waiver that you are not using them for insurance purposes.

You must use their locks - their locks are the only ones that fit in the doors which is fine. But it's a one time purchase and you keep the lock...

Dear Owner: Facility was spotless and nicely cool in the office. Lydia is your saving grace at this facility. Here is what is not OK:

The Lock:

Up front, I will not "ding" the staff for this: There is price gouging on the cost of the lock. Another facility we called charged $11.00 for the same lock that costs $17.00 at this facility. That's an INCREDIBLE markup. SHAME on the owner(s). Call ahead and find out the type of lock needed and bring your own.

The Transparency:

I reserved online receiving the web special which cost 30% less than the normal monthly rent. When I arrived and went through registration, Lydia made very clear that the cost of the facility would gradually rise after the third month. I very much appreciated that head's up!

I did not see this anywhere on the website. So I consider it a bait and switch by the owner. We are not planning a long-term rental, but others should be aware.

Staff:

After reserving, we went directly to the facility. Lydia had already called me and I let her know when I arrived. She and Scott met me very promptly and she took care of all of my registration and explained how the process worked, billing, etc. We were in a hurry and Lydia was friendly, fast and yet thorough! * for Lydia *...

Yes this storage unit is very well located it is on a side street and that's good it's away from traffic and noise and you just go up to the gate you put your you put your your password in you go through the gate and then you look at the map you find out where you're located the map takes you directly where you need to be it's a good a good map layout and you can't get lost there's plenty of space and so you don't have to worry about trucks running you over or taking part of your spot and you can't get into your storage so I would recommend this place I really would I've been to a lot of storage units and this one they were fast accurate as far as getting my information and getting my storage unit was all good and lock was waiting on me just got into the storage unit open it up put my storage in whatever I was going to store pull it down locked it and go off it's great you can't beat it you really can't I know I run into using storage is quite a bit and there's nothing like this storage and I'm not just saying that these people have it together....
