This is a small restaurant with a small menu - there are 2 tables and a menu with 12 items on it. I visited here for the first time, as it was close to the bike trail that I was taking. The guy who owns it is the son of the original owner, and he is very friendly. His wife explained a bit of the history of the place, and I felt very welcomed. This place specializes in the patties, which originated in England. A form of these patties are famous in Upper Michigan, and known there as pastys. The English originally brought them to both places, and the Jamaicans made their own variation with ground beef and seasonings minus the vegetables. They also have available a couple of curries (which I haven't tried yet), and some sides. I ordered 2 patties and a side of rice and peas (which was really green onions and some sort of bean). Both were excellent tasting. I will go back to this neat little restaurant, and recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's difficult to overstate how much of an institution Patties of Jamaica is in Indianapolis. They've been open nonstop since the mid 1980s, providing an authentic taste of Jamaican cuisine. The owner, Stefan, is one of the most affable shopkeepers I've ever met, getting everyone coming through his door as a friend.
The patties alone are worth several trips a month for me, and they're the most reasonably priced ones I've found in Indy. They have frozen takeaway bags of patties for sale, for when you inevitably have a midnight craving. The goat stew is rich and savory, a must try for the adventurous Midwestern foodie. Oxtail is, at the time of this review, unavailable due to pricing issues, which, being a budget conscious diner, I understand and appreciate.
Support your local institutions, and give Patties of Jamaica a visit. You will treasure the experience,...

Google had trouble getting me there... But I'm so glad I figured it out anyway... I would highly recommend the beef patties..... They're actually a delicious dough stuffed with a beef mixture very very yummy.... Plus The Price is Right at $1.75 each. Also the chicken curry was very good especially thick and hearty and flavorful... With nice big chunks of chicken....perfect on a cold winter day! You get about two cups for $5.... If you want rice that's an additional 75 cents. I will definitely be back. please don't hesitate to give this local food establishment your business. I believe also from the signage inside the store that they have been in business for many years. Also it's take out only so...
