It's not everyday we go out as a family and for some reason or another we can never seem to decide on where to go, however, earlier this evening we were treated to Taziki's for dinner and I must say, it was a lot better then what I had anticipated. Fresh flavors, clean food with a relaxed, family friendly, casual, and clean atmosphere in the middle of one of the busiest places in the city.
We started off with some appetizers, the Hummus Trias and the Whipped Feta. The Hummus was delicious with different toppings on each portion. The Whipped feta, however, was the favorite at our table. It was beautifully whipped, with the nice essence of fresh herbs and a dollop of honey.
Next, for entrees we ordered Grilled Veggie dinner, Grilled Salmon dinner, Grilled Lamb dinner, and a grilled cheese for our littlest one. The sides were pretty much the same roasted potatoes, salad, fruit cup, and chips. Grilled veggies were fantastic and fresh as can be. The Grilled Lamb because of the size, is very easy to overcook and sadly it was but just slightly. It had great flavor and the char marks were on point. The Grilled Salmon came out fully cooked with great flavor and again awesome char marks.
Overall our dining experience was fantastic with very little wait time or hassle. The staff was awesome and extremely helpful. My only issues and I mean this in the loosest of ways, were the very limited options for sides and the desserts were some what disappointing.
As a society we need to see more places with healthier options and a more wide spread of food that can appease everyone. This place has vegan, vegetarian, and meat options that are made fresh everyday for every order. I went in there feeling slugish after dinner I came out feeling good, energized, and satisfied. Because of the location of Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe, it's a great choice to pick up something quick and healthy, a great pitstop for those who are healthy and time conscious or even if you are just relaxing and unwinding but still keep or want a...
Read moreIt's a place to get a gyro. It is like a McDonald's that sells easy Mediterranean food. It is a bit pricey for the atmosphere and portion size, but their rent is probably high.
The people behind the counter want you to tip them, though I have never seen tipping at McDonald's, BK or Wendy's, so I find that strange. Also, the staff is very economical with their communication. They want you to order your food, pay and then leave. No small talk or hints that they value your patronage is offered. Interaction with the cashiers is similar to the computerized kiosks that are now in use at many fast food restaurants.
It is a place to acquire simple Mediterranean food. It is not a place you want to linger or share a meal and conversation with friends. Both the atmosphere and the staff convey that message. The staff are not rude nor is the place dirty. They are there to do the bare minimum to earn a paycheck and the eating area has tables and chairs. I think it is also the juxtaposition of the bland and austere dining area with the warm, spicey, savory richness of traditional Mediterranean food and culture that makes the dining experience feel unbalanced or off kilter.
Not a bad place for take out gyros. I would avoid the baklava since it tastes like the honey has been mixed with corn syrup for cost savings and leaves a bit of an...
Read moreMy first time eating here and honestly, not horrible. I ordered the grilled Tzatziki chicken, greek salad, and a tea. My friend grilled lamb, greek salad, and a drink, and my daughter ordered grilled cheese pita and a drink. They brought out the wrong meal for my friend (Harissa chicken) and she had to wait 15 more minutes for her lamb. My grilled chicken was so overcooked I had to dip it in dressing to make it work. I could pinch it and it shredded in my fingers. Tzatziki sauce was flavorful and fresh. My first tzatziki experience. Salad had a greek-ish dressing on the side. Nothing I couldn't make or get in a salad kit. The grilled lamb was tasty -but dry/overcooked. My daughter's grilled cheese pita was HORRIBLE. It was a grilled pita with not even a handful of shredded cheese -not toasted, not melty, not cheesy. Even I didn't like it. I normally like pita bread. I had to buy her dinner somewhere else. I was really hoping to like this place as it was my first Mediterranean venture and my first trip to this restaurant-but nope. I will try another Mediterranean place as the flavors were interesting and I hope to get a more authentic experience -but somewhere else. I guess you could say that this place might be a beginners mediterranean-if only things were...
