I decided to try Nihari Haven after trying their food catered at a wedding. My wife and I both loved the food at the wedding so much that we were extremely excited to give their restaurant a shot. However, their restaurant leaves a lot to be desired
We ordered Nihari (6/10), biryani (4/10), chicken seekh kabob (barely edible, 0/10), mutton shinwari karahi (almost all bones, 4/10), and a mixed chaat (7/10). I don’t understand how such a disparity exists between their restaurant and their catering. The restaurant is actually perhaps the worst Pakistani food I have had in Dallas. The catering was one of the best. The consistency just is not there. I assume some of the food is reheated as the meat/chicken was tough and rubbery. The seekh kabobs tasted stale and the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
The restaurant automatically adds a gratuity of 15%. This is insult to injury given the experience. Initially given the great catering we were going to order family size entrees. We had 6 people and I am glad we only ordered the singles. Despite ordering the singles, 90% of the food was left over. No one in the family enjoyed it and I felt bad for bringing my in laws there solely based on our good the catering is.
To avoid anyone else being deceived by their catering, I highly recommend the consistency between catering and the actual restaurant food be improved before anyone decides to give this one a shot. It is still mind blowing to me how the catering differs so wildly from the...
Read moreNihari Haven is located inside the Wyndham hotel in Irving. There’s signs of where to go once you enter the hotel. There’s plenty of space to sit for large groups as well, and the ambiance definitely has the fine dining feel. We went on a weekday night, so not much rush.
For the food, we had the samosa chaat and the pani puri as starters. Pani puri shells tasted a little different than what we were used to, but not bad. Samosa chaat was good, two can share in one order.
For the main dishes, we got butter chicken, mutton shinwari karahi, beef seekh kababs, chicken malai boti, beef nihari, and accompanied with a garlic naan and plain naan. The malai boti was delicious! Probably one of my favorite malai botis ive had so far! Beef seekh kabab was also good. The naans were also freshly made I felt. They were fluffy and perfect. Butter chicken was also a little bit different than what we’re used to, it also had a some almond garnished on top. Mutton karahi was good, but it too mild. It needed a little more spice. Beef nihari was delicious, and they do give one large piece which you can break into smaller pieces. Also, to note, their nimbu paani was so refreshing! We got the mint mojito, mango lassi, and the nimbu paani.
For the desserts, we had gulab jamun and the brownie sundae. Both were presented very nicely and...
Read moreFine dine experience at very reasonable price. Food is cheaper than most of the grocery store resturants in dallas.
Nihari is one of the best i tasted in dfw area, justified its name. Tandoori roti / naan for 1$ is a big surprise. Chicken biryani was very flavorful and tasty. Very small menu so everything tasted very fresh and service was really quick. Not much option for vegetarians in main course. Though price point is relatively low but 2 person can share the items.
Resturant was inside wyndham in one of their banquest hall set up, so ambience was upscale. They serve food with appropriate silverware and ikea white plates,so no plastic waste. It opens at 5pm and closes at 10pm so plan your visit accordingly.
If they can maintain the quality at this price it will be one of best pakistani food joint. Definitely visiting next time to try their...
