I've eaten at my fair share of Indian restaurants over the years, but Swagath is by far the worst yet. I ordered samosas, naan, pooris, and paneer biryani. The samosas and bread were quite good, but the biryani was the spiciest thing both I and my partner have ever eaten! Both of us like spicy food, but the biryani was so spicy it was completely inedible. It had no real flavor except "seething blowtorch."
When I called the restaurant to complain, the man I spoke with said that all Indian restaurants make biryani in a similar way. Then he put me on hold to talk to other customers, who apparently told him the biryani was "good." I don't know if the customers he spoke to were fellow deliveries like me or dine-in patrons, but what kind of restaurant talks to other customers to get their opinion when someone complains?!
I tried to explain that I've eaten many a biryani that was much less spicy than what I received. Swagath's version is so brimming with chili that clumps of spices could be seen throughout the whole Family Pack. Not at all pleased; the delivery service I ordered through can't refund the cost of the biryani because they're only responsible for picking up and delivering the food. I'm going to have to initiate a chargeback
Swagath may not cater to Westerners, but even if that's the case, I find it hard to believe that any Indians would have called my indescribably spicy excuse for a biryani "good." Swagath needs to understand the dynamics of American restaurants--if the customer doesn't like something, it falls to the restaurant to refund their money or make them something else. That said, I would strongly advise Westerners who value their taste buds not to order biryani! And Indians, consider yourselves warned, too! Awful....
Read moreMaybe Sunday lunch is their busiest time but it took 45 minutes after the ETA provided through their online ordering system to get our 2 individual dishes. It seems like the online ordering system doesn’t increase the ETA and always just says food will be ready in 20 minutes. This restaurant seems to serve a lot of family style meals and 20 minutes does not make sense if there are 5 family style meals ahead of yours. We arrived at the ETA, they told us it takes 20 minutes to make food as if we had arrived early, so we left and ran some other errands, we came back 30 minutes later thinking we had given them ample time but the food still wasn’t ready and the employee at the counter told me 2 more minutes multiple times, I ended up waiting about 15 minutes. We like to order this food to go as the ambiance isn’t great in the restaurant but I’m not sure we can navigate the unpredictable wait times. Hopefully this was an off day, nothing was offered in compensation for the wait time like a free drink or explained as to why it took so long so I’m thinking this may just be typical for...
Read moreI ordered a chicken biryani 555 by phone, and went to pick it up. After picking up the order, I noticed it was lighter/cheaper, I was frustrated and thought it was weird but figured they were cutting costs so went about my day. Got to my vehicle, and saw I only got the chicken “appetizer”.
Went back to clarify the issue, that I ordered the biryani and whomever was at the register told me I said the chicken 555 appetizer instead of considering he may have heard incorrectly. The man tries to offer me biryani rice which I’m okay with. He rings it up and it comes up to more than the price of the chicken 555 biryani. I leave and let them keep the food I bought.
This is about principle. Piece of advice. You’re in the restaurant business. You depend on people returning to keep running. I don’t always believe in the customer is always right but y’all could have made this situation whole again through through so many ways. Even a refund. Enjoy the $11 fellas, have a guess if I’m coming...
