Very disappointed. Sad, actually. The decor is so-so and the wait staff could have been a little more neatly dressed but the chips were crispy if not toasty warm. The salsa was good and loaded with cilantro, which I like. I was surprised at the menu prices. They were 35-50% higher than listed on the online menu posting. Price was one of the main reasons we chose NA for dinner last night. My wife does not drink and I was packing so we passed on the alcoholic libations. There were a lot of seemingly unique dishes on the menu but not as enticing as the online info led me to believe. The wife went for a veggie laddened chicken dish with rice and bean. I went for one of my all time favorites, cameranos a la diabla. This is where the night fell apart. My dish consisted of overcook shrimp swimming in a pool of KETCHUP accompanied by a few raw pieces on onion. Honest to God, ketchup, sweet as it could be. I expressed my displeasure assuming there had been some monstrous mix up in the kitchen and settled in with my ice water to wait for a new dish to be prepared. The waiter returned with my SAME PLATE to which, I was told, hot sauce had been added to the sauce. This is when the manager decided to make his appearance and asked if he could make me something else, something special. I ordered Taco's al pastor. The manager looked like I was speaking Greek while the waiter explained what "al pastor" meant. After a few more sips of my water and doing my very best to smile at my wife, the manager returned with three corn tortillas topped with chopped beef with a side of onions and cilantro and a bowl of hot sauce. My wife is now praying to God, Mary and the baby Jesus that I do not shoot someone. I ate the rice and bean (I was hungry, afterall). But with all my best southern manners still in check, we pay the bill (my wife's), thank the manager for his best efforts and exit the restaurant for our first and last time. I should mention that the manager's "best efforts" was to blame it all on the owners who were in Mexico. ...
Read moreUpdate, November 2021: Remodel is done, the large horseshoe-shaped bar has been removed, and the bar area is now off to the right as you enter. This made room for more table seating, and our large group happily sat down and began to enjoy the tortilla chips and salsa that were set out. The salsa is just the right balance of tomato-ey and spicy. The tortilla chips weren't the best, they all looked to be dry and overcooked. The menu is new, and extensive. Everyone enjoyed their food, see the beautiful presentation in the photos posted here. The weak spot was the service and margaritas. We ran out of things often, and no server had checked on us. At one point a friend had both an empty margarita glass AND an empty water. Unacceptable when you're eating spicy food! (and the place was not even busy, only a few tables had diners seated at them) All of the margaritas tasted like juice, no tequila was evident. The recommendation would be to either put enough alcohol in them to be worthwhile, or cut the price in half.
November 2020: Our group had a really great meal last night. The best part? The tortilla chips and salsa. I'd called ahead to ask if the tortilla chips were made fresh, and was told they were made in-house daily. They were outstanding. As was the salsa. Our server Mariana was friendly and attentive, we will ask for her every time. :) Several of us chose fajita quesadillas, and they were so good! Mine was full of chicken, grilled vegetables and cheese. Served with guac and sour cream I ate every bite. The bell peppers were so sweet and fresh! I wish I was hungry, because I can't wait to eat there again. Well done,...
Read moreHere I have for you another Mexican Restaurant.
Upon walking in I was greeted by someone who seemed rather bored with being there. Once seated, the gentleman was a bit nicer. He should have started with that attitude instead of warming up to it.
The ambiance of the place was pretty dark and dare I say, boring? You also had some flys buzzing around you in anticipation of getting a bite of your food. (This and the original welcoming that wasn’t very welcoming is the main reason of losing stars.)
The food was piping hot and good but not extremely good. I found it to be very greasy. The bowl of guacamole and mango was decent as well but it didn’t have that wow factor. I believe this is probably due to the avocado not being ripe enough for the dish.
The price ended up being about $40 after tip for two entrees and a single soda. A bit more on the expensive side.
Worth it? No, I’d say pass.
I strongly suggest they take care of their fly problem because usually if you have flys hanging around the dinning area. You are not going to want to begin to think about what’s in the kitchen or what you are putting down your throat.
