This was the 2nd time we've stayed at this hotel- the last time 3 months ago. Neither stay met our expectations. The front desk staff are the best part of this hotel. First, a warning. Do not stay in a room facing the front of the hotel on Whipple Ave. As has been noted in several other reviews, the noise day and night can be incredible. It seems as though 25% of the cars in Canton have a modified or no muffler. There's not much the hotel can do about it but they have put white noise devices in the rooms which help a little. In addition, the HVAC system in the closet sounds at times like a truck in the room. Next problem we had was with housekeeping. When we checked in for our 5 day stay we were asked how often we wanted our room serviced. We said we wanted it everyday. On three nights after we returned in the evening we found no service had been done and we had to trek down to the front desk to get fresh towels. Lastly, the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, as it did with our last stay. Keeping the pots of eggs, potatoes, bacon, etc. filled seems to be an impossible task here. The window between the buffet and the kitchen is always closed so no one is monitoring the buffet. They ran out of orange juice (a breakfast staple) even before we arrived at the hotel and it wasn't available until our last 2 days. Their "scrambled eggs" are actually baked eggs that are served as chunks of rather dry eggs. And on the weekend things went further downhill. Metal utensils were gone and small packages of plastic ones were substituted. Packages of dry oatmeal were substituted for the pot of fresh oatmeal that had been available. Following this stay we traveled to Jacksonville, FL and stayed at the Hyatt Place Jacksonville Airport. What a difference in the breakfast. The window between the buffet and the kitchen is always open and there is someone actively there to monitor what needs refreshing. The scrambled eggs were actually scrambled and good. Utensils were metal. Juice glasses were glass, not plastic like at the HP Canton. ||I understand that Hyatt Places and Hyatt Houses are franchises and not operated by Hyatt. But this seems to allow the franchises to cut back where they want and have no consistent service, particularly the...
Read moreHyatt Place is a relatively nice hotel at a great location for people visiting from out of town. Fairly affordable, all things considered. You can expect to sleep comfortably and the crime rate in the area is especially low.
The rooms are spacious and actually quite nice for extended stays. There's a little space to sit down on a couch and eat take-out; there's a mini-fridge to store your beverages; the shower is relatively decent (detachable showerhead would be nice, but it's serviceable), and everything is clean. It is odd that towels are stored inside the shower, and that the sink is outside of the bathroom, but it wasn't unmanageable. The toilet and shower are separated by a sliding door.
Besides that, the only real complaint about the room would be that the bed box frame feels pretty creaky and that the TVs have most of their features restricted, preventing you from casting anything or logging into apps to watch anything besides DirectTV.
Everything "looks" nice, but the quality of the materials is obviously quite cheap. Oh well, it's not like you're moving in.
The parking lot is a little small (especially given the amount of vehicles for all of the sports events), comparatively speaking, but I was always able to find a spot (sometimes the last spot).
Staff was friendly, and the cleaning crew definitely puts in work, so be kind to them.
Front desk was hit or miss. Always friendly, but definitely a few TikTik Zoomers playing on their phones when customers are asking for help. When it's totally quiet and nothing's going on, that's a different story. Nobody was rude, though, which is nice.
The breakfast isn't great, but if you're on a budget, okay with carb-loading on toast or cereal, and don't want to go out, at least the yogurt, granola, cantaloupe, and orange juice is okay. I'd skip the turkey sausage, dry pancakes, and weird eggs, though. Nothing to get excited about, but not the worst.
I would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again. It's a nice hotel if you're visiting Smalltown, USA...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK YOUR RESERVATION HERE UNLESS YOU ARE CLAIRVOYANT!! I was booked for the night of the 28th of September, and unfortunately I had a family member experience extreme difficulty, and she asked me to please not go to the hotel, and stay with her instead at her home. I called the afternoon of the 28th to tell them I would not be coming to the hotel. Since then I've tried to obtain a refund from this hotel. It's literally been a game of virtual ping pong. First, the assistant manager told me she was very sympathetic to the circumstances of my cancellation, but only Expedia could refund me, then the general manager said the same. Of course, Expedia had already paid this hotel for my stay. The general manager was told by Expedia's escalation team to refund me, so then the general manager came up with the a new excuse for non-payment: I had not canceled 48 hours before my reservation!!! How many of you reading this have been aware of a family member needing your support 48 hours in advance? Wonder what they would have done if I'd been in a blinding car accident less than 3 hours before check-in? No worries, instead of a refund now, I expect the general manager to give me the winning lottery numbers, since he is apparently clairvoyant, or at least expects that potential customers are! I had stayed there in the past, and overall I had found my experience there to be average, but this recent response to my request for reimbursement has really put them in the dumps. Oh, and please take any response that the general manager or the assistant make to this review with a grain of salt. To date, I feel they have just played a lot of games with me, and I doubt they would treat a response to this review any differently. And it would turn out that I was right about that, when I read their response to my review! Here's a question: Does anyone that works there have to phone in 2 days in advance to get reimbursed for their sick time? Rules for me, but...
