Very unprofessional. Worst restaurant experience probably of my life. Let me preface this review by saying I live very close and have ordered at least $1000 worth of sushi from this restaurant in the last year. Although it's not the greatest, it's reasonably priced and close by. So I went in person for the first time last night. I will no longer be going here after my interaction with a server. I ordered miso soup. Very cheap, very straightforward. My guest and I proceeded to order entrees. When the soup came out, it looked very white and I tasted it. It tasted different. Now a few things - (1) I have had miso soup from restaurants all over the country and this one multiple times; (2) I have food allergies so it's very important for me to know what ingredients are used in certain foods; (3) I was previously a manager at a very well known restaurant and brewery in NJ; and (4) because of my past in the restaurant business, I really don't send things back or complain about service unless they are really terrible. So I didn't eat the soup. At the end of the meal, it was very clear that I did not touch the soup. I asked the server to have it removed from the bill because it didn't taste like miso. The server proceeded to argue with me about how I ordered it and it would not be taken off the bill. I asked to speak to a manager. He said there was no manager and even if there was, the manager would not take it off the bill. We continued to argue. I paid for the miso and remainder of the bill and left. Honestly it's like $4. I really don't care that much about the money. It was just really WEIRD experience. Never had any server literally argue with me. And unfortunate because I really like this place. I even tried to ask the hostess if the manager was around and she said the same thing - what restaurant has no manager on duty? Anyway, I would not recommend this place anymore after that interaction. Extremely unprofessional and...
Read moreI've had better Japanese. We were really excited to see this place open up within walking distance from our house. Our favorite place closed down years ago and we've been searching for a new "go to" Japanese restaurant ever since. We tried this new-to-our-neighborhood place out for Valentine's Day and we're unimpressed, unfortunately. We placed our order online for pick up. Despite having to give our phone number for the order, we were never notified when our order was ready. After waiting an hour, I went up there thinking it surely had to be ready soon. Got there, and our food was just sitting there waiting (for God-knows how long). I asked the cashier why I wasn't notified my order was ready and she said "oh, we don't text" and that I "should have received an estimated pick up time" when I placed order (I did not). I brought the food home to my family and we eagerly dug in, only to find an extra dish in our bag that we did not order. Normally, freebies are great but this was seafood and we are strict vegetarians so we were appalled that 1) it was in with our food and 2) that it was the wasted death of an animal because we weren't going to eat it and we couldn't return food. Unfortunately, it went in the trash. The rest of the dinner should have followed as it was one of the most bland dinners we've eaten. We typically prefer Japanese for the strong flavors, this had none. The tofu tasted undercooked and the breading around it doughy, as were the Udon noodles but overall just no flavor. We had to rummage through the house to find hot sauce and soy sauce just to make it palatable. We won't...
Read moreThe Sushi is still good (the Uni wasn't good tonight but everything else was really good), but this location has started to go downhill in the last few years after opening strong.
Tonight: 4 of us sit for dinner and after a few minutes the male server brings 4 complimentary soups and places two of the soups on top of the only two menus on the table (doesn't just leave the menus uncovered) then asks what we want to drink. I ask what beers they have and he says they're in the menu. Oh, the one you set the soups on top of?
When some of the food started coming out, we had to steal two more place settings from another table as well, the server didn't bring enough for all of us.
Also, beers were brought out no cold glass, so we had to ask, and again when we ordered a second one. Wife had to ask twice for Sriracha. Seemed very low effort for the whole experience. And the restaurant really didn't seem too clean, bathrooms were in bad shape before the dinner rush on a Wednesday.
The sushi was good except for the Uni, and typically has been when we go here. Not sure how much we'll go back though now that we've found some better places and with the slide in quality and service. I've had better experiences here so I hope they...
