Drove one hour, found a parking spot 10 minutes from the store on a busy Saturday, trekked through the rain with a cooler full of ice to buy an ice cream cake. The clerk said she couldn't write happy birthday with a name on it, just plain "Happy Birthday" since she was not trained on cake writing. She said if I wanted a name (in my case a 3 letter name), I would have to return in an hour for the supervisor who knows how to write on cakes. I was annoyed but we drove so far and wanted the cake, so I offered to pay first and pick it up after the hour was up. She didn't make me pay, just said it was ok and to return later. We left, killed time in the rain with two kids and a heavy cooler at a a packed mall. Returned to the store full of 6+ employees. When I asked to pick up the cake, they said the supervisor stated the cake must be paid for to be able to be written on, so they didn't have the cake ready. Annoying again, but fine. I asked them to write the name and we would wait. The new clerk said that no one there knew how to write on cakes and they all giggled about how bad their handwriting was. I said it was fine, I would even take a sloppily written cake. At that point the original clerk changed her story and said she no longer can write on it. We stood there like fools. They were playing games. How is no one in the store trained to write happy birthday on a cake? I even asked for a plastic pick to stick on top. They didn't answer me. It was a $60+ cake and they lost my business for good. This was our second bad Kilwin's experience... the other was the downtown St. Augustine FL store who had a filthy wet rag lining the broken dripping ice cream cooler. The rag kept falling into the actual ice cream tubs touching the food and they were still serving everyone. They used to be our favorite, but this was...
Read moreIt's so hard to walk by this store without walking in!! The sweet aroma is always too good to resist. They have amazing ice cream, fudge, the most amazing caramel apples, chocolate covered popcorn, and so much more (seriously, their product selection is crazy! So much variety, & all their chocolate items come in milk, dark, & white). There is a little something for everyone with their no sugar added chocolates and their dairy free sorbettos. Their variety & inclusivity makes kilwins the most perfect date spot since I love their ice cream & caramel apples and my boyfriend has a dairy allergy, and he loves their koolers. They also have DAILY specials. While they are all great deals, my favorite days are Tuesday's (buy one caramel apple get a second one for a dollar) and waffle cone Wednesday's (buy one waffle cone get a second one for a dollar). The staff is friendly, helpful, and always have a smile on their face. I can't say enough great things about this place. I also recently found out they do catering! They have ice cream socials for business events or personal occasions as well as chocolate fountains. The best part is that they provide everything- cups, spoons, napkins, & your own server! I highly recommend stopping by Kilwins at the St John's town center. They also do military discounts! Go see them, you won't be...
Read moreIt's unfortunate that I have to give this parlor 3 stars. Everything was soooo good EXCEPT the cashier that waited on my family. My son had graduated that week so I had a ton of family come in from out of town. I had seen this place and thought it was cute. It looked like a pretty good place to visit. So, naturally, I took my family there for a visit. I was greeted by smiling faces with the exception of the person that I was being waited on. I will refer to her as associate "L" because this is more about her poor service than her name which begins with L. I wanted one of their specialty drinks. I asked for the flavors available and was instructed to look at the wall. I still couldn't see due to my vision at the time. I kindly asked again. She asked if I didn't see the flavors on the wall. The pictures were pretty big so I told her which one. When it was time to pay, my daughters were standing behind me with candy apples. She looked pass me and asked, "Are you going to pay for that?" I said, "Maam, I'm paying for it." She looked pass me again, joking with another couple about military discounts. Then she proceeded with the transaction. I left and was so upset that I called and spoke with a manager on the way home. She assured me that associate "L" would be spoken to and took my name. I haven't...
