After living in Japan for 4 years, one has certain expectations when it comes to Japanese food. As anyone would after visiting a foreign country. With that said, I ordered the chicken Katsu Curry, and my husband ordered Ramen. It was as if I stepped back into Coco Curry and ordered a level 1. Wasn’t as delicious as Coco’s, but close enough. The chicken Katsu I felt was a little over cooked and the Panko wasn’t as “crunchy” but the overall taste of the curry was spot on. For $11.95, I felt that was a fair price given the amount of food on my plate. The ramen had a whole lot going on and overall the flavor was simple but I tried many ramen establishments while in Japan and this ramen wasn’t even in the same ball park. But...I would definitely come back to try different items on the menu. The staff reminded me of Japan. There is a big difference between japan and the US when it comes to waitressing....but I didn’t get annoyed. It was amusing to still notice these things. They mean well and were...
Read moreI'd heard rave reviews about Oishii's ramen from my Asian friends, so I decided to finally give it a try. I have eaten ramen in Tokyo, New York, San Fran, and yes, Jacksonville. What I had tonight at Oishii is right up there with the big guys. Interestingly, I just checked Yelp's "Best Ramen in Jacksonville." They have Oishii at number 5. As far as taste and quality, however, I'd rank Oishii higher than Crane (4) and Domu (3). And, if you factor in the price at a little over $12 for a generous bowl of ramen with amazing broth, it's hands down the best in town for the money. A cozy little restaurant in a Tinseltown strip mall off of Southside Blvd has the best ramen in town?! Who knew?? If you like ramen, try Oishii. ...
Read moreI've only been here twice (I don't live near Jax) but it is THE best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to! I always request to visit when visiting two friends who are regulars and the place is wonderful. The staff are amazing and so sweet.
The food is the greatest I've had from the pork ramen to the hibachi chicken. Their miso soup is the best I've had and the last time we visited, we had some tasty crab things and as someone who's not a seafood person, they were great!
The staff are so friendly and they make an effort to remember their repeat customers. My friends hadn't been in for a few months and one of the servers still recognized them. You feel warm and welcome when you go here.
And the leftovers taste just as good...
