We have dined at JB's In the past, often alternating our visits with their sister restaurant, Wickford on the Water. Sadly, although the experience and food in the past had been pleasant and delicious, this visit to celebrate Mother's Day, was disappointing. First, be warned that the construction on Rt. 138 E on a Sunday is going to add a minimum of 30 minutes onto your trip if you are coming from Warwick, since the Jamestown exit ramp will be closed. Traffic is directed to make a U-Turn in order to pick up Rt. 138 W. From that point, the road construction is over. I was looking forward to ordering the Prime Rib, which was listed under the "Mother's Day Dinner" caption on JB's website supported by Google. You will understand my reference to Google further on in this review. Reservations had been made beforehand, so we were seated immediately. Our server was extremely polite and friendly as usual! Unfortunately, we were told the Prime Rib was only being offered during the brunch. When I showed her that it was listed also as an option under the "Mother's Day Dinner" caption, she agreed that it was in fact written and offered to check with her manager. She promptly came back and explained that her manager had said that the menu did not apply to dinner, only to brunch in spite of what we all read with our own eyes. My husband and I choose another entree thinking no problem, there were other choices, although the Mother's Day Dinner specials being offered were rather limited. We split the Surf and Surf Crab Cakes (delicious) along with the Thick Sliced Bacon for appetizers, the latter having quite a kick to it, so if you are someone who likes spicy bites, you will like the bacon dish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Peri Peri Salmon, however my Tomatoe Burrata Pasta missed the mark. Sauce was watery. The manager Sherry made her rounds and when she stopped at our table to ask how everything was, I asked about the misprint regarding the Prime Rib,etc. When I showed Sherri the website, she informed me that it was "Google" and that I "needed to use JB's website". Not wanting to cause a scene there, I dropped the matter. The couple next to us leaned over and remarked that they couldn't help but overhear the conversation and said something to the effect that I was not going to win anything with "her". Overall, I not only wish my husband had chosen another restaurant for the occasion, I respectfully request that JB update their "Google" business website, which they are responsible for monitoring. We will be back in the future, but NOT for...
Read moreI don’t even know how to rate this, because I’ve had 2 very different experiences this summer at JB’s. One was a family meal. We had a pressing issue going on with a family member flying in, needed a res sort of last minute, and they were so kind and accommodating! We even got a table outside. The fish tacos were fantastic. My dad had some gluten free chicken with the most amazing balsamic glaze. My sister’s steak dish- while delicious otherwise- was overcooked repeatedly (clearly a kitchen issue) so they comped it for us and brought a dessert. No complaints. The second time, we tried to go as a couple for drinks, and the hostess stand was run by what seemed like clueless 16 year olds. There were loads of empty tables and total chaos, with 5 parties ahead of us waiting for quite some time. The dirty tables just sat and sat. We asked to sit or stand at the bar railing for a cocktail (while 2 seats that were never filled sat open). They said it would be a wait. 🤯 Ended up leaving the half full restaurant bc the only option we were given was to sit on the edge of some landscaping downstairs. Totally weird. Went to a different bar on the main drag and had a great time. It was 5 stars and then 1 star, so I give it 3 overall. Needs consistency and...
Read moreFirst things first. The location is second to none. The waterviews are spectacular in any season. They've done a nice job remodeling. It finally brings the restaurant into the 21st Century! With that said, this location has changed hands many times in the years that I've been coming to NewportJamestown. The menu is limited as are the portion sizes for the price, but it's a great location. They're many lobster choices. Market Price, wink, wink. The food is tasty, but not enough. The Clams Casino Dip is decadent, but not enough crostini to finish the dip. You'll want, and have to lick the back of the spoon on this. The Fish Tacos were tasty, but the Mexican genre for me is a little out of place here. The wait staff is kids. They have a limited knowledge of food, and even drinks because they're underaged, but you have to start somewhere. I find too many restaurants in the area try to be too artistic, and creative with their menus, and forget that one of the goals is to feed hungry travelers, and visitors. Despite the portion sizes, I would try this place again, knowing that either I have to order a lot of food, or not come too hungry. Lastly, I commend the owners for their bravery, and vision. It's a tough location even though they're...
