Has anyone noticed the changes in food and service quality at our beloved Jeff's? My family has enjoyed their food for more than 30 years. Lately it has been frustratingly awful. My regular go to was their grilled chicken on a pita...Juicy, chargrilled and subtly seasoned with perfect flavor.
Steve was a genius I miss him horribly. Since the change my favorite dish has been served partially raw, dried out and rubbery, and today it was juicy but not grilled...as if it had been boiled. See pics below...would you eat that??? Yuck. I did not order boiled chicken, it is supposed to be grilled chicken.
When I called to let them know once again it was not right. I asked for Barbara and got Monte instead. He said he was a manager but did not listen to me. He continually talked over me and even said if I didn't like the rubbery boiled chicken to just not eat there a message delivered allegedly from Barbara herself. He tried to justify the boiled chicken saying they didn't grill it because it dries it out...THIS HAS MOTIVATED ME TO AMEND MY PREVIOUS 5 STAR to a 1...I would do a negative if I could. It has gotten so bad. Save your money take it to any one of the hundreds of other restaurants in the area and enjoy quality food and service. It could not possibly be any worse than this new wannabe Jeff's.
Funny thing is... Steve was able to deliver a perfectly juicy grilled chicken breast every time. Never once had to complain or supervise the cooking to get it right.
My husband gave up on them in January after repeatedly having a bad experience with their Gyros. According to him the only thing they can do right nowadays are pizza puffs and you can get those anywhere.
Per Mr. Monte's statement, I will go elsewhere to spend my money from now on. Sadly the Jeff's I knew and...
Read moreI was looking forward to trying this restaurant based on the high reviews, but I was highly disappointed. I suggested this restaurant to my family for takeout, and all of the food we got was absolutely terrible! The corned beef was slimy and it didn’t taste good at all. They served it on this soggy plain white bread, which is not the bread corned beef is traditionally served on. Also, the sandwich barely had any meat on it to begin. It definitely wasn’t anything like you would expect from a traditional Chicago corned beef sandwich. The fish sandwich also was soggy, and so were the fries. They gave a generous amount of meat on the Gyro, so we thought it might be good. We were wrong. The tzatziki sauce tasted strange like it wasn’t fresh. That ruined the whole sandwich. Also, the strawberry milkshake was a very watery texture. It wasn’t thick like a shake should be. They didn’t give us a shake, they basically gave us strawberry milk. This food was too expensive to be so nasty. I’ve lived in Chicago for most of my life, and this is by far the worst food I’ve had in the city. This establishment doesn’t seem to put much care or effort into the way they prepare their food. I’m so disappointed we wasted our money here. This is a big warning to not...
Read moreUPDATE: I went today for lunch and had the Chili Dog again. It tasted good, but not my favorite thing there. It is messy and probably should come with wet naps. Also, they take Zelle which is a nice alternative to cash. It also appears they may now take credit cards as I saw a sign talking about a fee for credit card.
ORIGINAL: I've had both the hot dog and a cheese burger. The hot dog is a quality Chicago dog. There cheese burger was also very good.
I went back and had the chili dog. It was just okay. Not my favorite chili. The fries also seemed a little different. Almost like a coated fries, I didn't like them this time.
They have excellent fries. They are a thin cut fry.
They only take cash. But, there is an ATM in the place.
I will continue to come back here.
Bicycling: The main road is far from ideal for cycling. There are side streets nearby which could be good. I don't remember any outdoor seating. But, you could just sit on the sidewalk along the...
