I really liked it. Our usual place was closed and we decided on this from a quick survey of reviews. Right off the bat, easy parking and no wait. So, at our usual pho place I will take the leftovers home. Then the next day, I'll and stop off someplace and get some crab rangoon or egg rolls and eat them both for lunch. My girlfriend always makes fun of me for mixing the cuisines, but i like what I like. Lo and behold... This place has crab rangoon, egg rolls, spring rolls, and lots of other appetizers right on the menu- and they have many options for you to choose from. The pork and shrimp spring rolls were fantastic. The pho came and dare I say the broth was better than our usual place. It was steaming hot, fragrant, and so very fresh. The noodles were soft and luxurious. Now we had a difference of opinion... I thought the meat was ample in my pho, my date thought there was not enough tendon or tripe in hers. We also differed on the flavor of the meatballs. I liked the way our usual place's tasted, she prefers here. Also she did not like the way she looked in the pictures, so I edited her out. 🖤 Vietnamese coffee was great. Sometime in between appetizers and pho, The place filled up. Like completely filled up. Our server never came back to refill my water, which was okay with me but your results may vary. The usual chili paste must be homemade because it is considerably hotter than what you usually find. If I was judging on the food alone this would definitely be five stars, but the lack of service and pho accoutrements still amount to an enthusiastic four stars. I will certainly...
Read moreThis was my first time here and it was outstanding. Shared some appetizers and we both had variations of pho - one of the best pho, if not the best, I've had. Appetizers were yummy too. The space is newly enlarged and remodeled and feels clean, light and airy, but not huge (think it was about 20 tables, mostly 4 tops, and a few 6). The owner is friendly and was interacting with all the customers to ensure a good experience. Service was prompt and attentive. The menu is large without being overwhelming, which in my mind says the food is always going to be good and consistent (I mean, really, how can anyplace do 100+ dishes well - those places can be so hit or miss). Can't wait to go back - the owner said they get really busy on Friday and Saturday night, but I think he said they take reservations. Can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu - apparently the whole catfish is quite the fan favorite. ...
Read moreI can confidently say that their pho is the best I've had in Chicago.
However, to put it plainly, the service was VERY BAD: We ordered a Thai iced coffee and they forgot to make it until we were ready for the check. They didn't bring water to the table until we asked for it (halfway through our meal). They didn't bring the vegetables for the pho until we asked for them (5 minutes after we got our pho).
Even just asking for these things was difficult because despite making clear eye contact, waving for attention and saying "Excuse me," the staff blatantly ignored me multiple times.
For the record, I'm not a picky customer - I generally give staff the benefit of the doubt and tip 25% as standard, but in this case I left 15% on the table and still felt scammed. So if you want some REALLY good pho and you don't mind the risk of receiving zero service beyond that, check...
