But Tiba doesn't stop there. Their charcoal grill offerings are equally impressive. The smoky, char-grilled flavors infuse every dish, whether it's kebabs, lamb chops, or grilled vegetables. Read moreTiba has been a neighborhood favorite for years. The food is delicious. My mainstay is the combination platter, which at $20 is dinner for two with leftovers. They do an excellent job of making yummy food for different dietary restrictions; not a lot of places can feed my friend group with some gluten-free, some vegan, and some omnivores as well as Tiba does. The owner often works the front herself and is exceptionally sweet. I've always experienced the location as friendly (rather than merely tolerant) toward queer and trans people.
When the pandemic came, Tiba lost its in-person dining and tried converting to takeout with a little convenience store. That must not have worked out, but it came back with a new owner. The prices (which had been very low) jumped up slightly but still are not high. The food stayed excellent. A few dishes changed slightly, and for the first month or two I think they were experimenting a little, but mostly it stayed the same. The baklava is also good.
I usually get takeout. For dining in, you currently get trays and plasticware as opposed to plates and silverware, and you have to buy bottled water instead of having glasses and a pitcher. These are my only dings, and I'm not letting that affect the overall 5-star impression because there's no way I'd willingly bring down this spot's average.
The new owner is clearly putting her heart and soul into the place, but the construction that's lasting for most of this year along Lawrence has got to be rough on its foot traffic. I hope very much that people keep ordering from here and that it stays open for years to come, because it remains one of the best restaurants of its kind...
Read moreI am changing a negative review to a positive one due to amazing customer service as well as having good food.
I have been a recurring customer and I had a combination sandwich yesterday in which the meat was very hard to eat - really just tendons and fat. It had happened once before with my combination sandwich but I had ignored it. Because it was the second time I decided to leave a poor review.
Today I got a call from the owner apologizing, and he asked if I could come in so he could prepare me a free meal. Because the meat was so hard to eat, and it had happened once before - I had assumed they noticed and had given it to me anyways.
I was wrong, and shouldnt have left a bad review and instead reached out to the owner.
I'm leaving a positive review because I have been here a few times and genuinely enjoy the food that I have had besides those two times. The Falafel is the best Falafel i've ever had, crispy but really moist and flavorful. I usually get a combination sandwich with beef (which is seasoned very nicely) and falafel. I also like the baba ghanoush, foul, and french fries a lot (highly recommend ordering a small fries even if it seems random, they are very very good). The portions are...
