I was saddened when Las Palmas closed. I loved Las Palmas and we visited three or four times a month, but I was interested in seeing what was going to replace it.
It took quite a while, but Daniel's Little Mexico finally opened in January, so we visited the first weekend. We were greeted almost immediately after we sat down and brought the requisite chips and salsa.
The interior had been completely re-done. The walls are now bright and colorful. The furniture is new, colorful, and entertaining. They've completely modified the front counter and bar area. In short, it received a complete makeover. Even the exterior got a fresh coat of paint and some updating. The place looks NICE!
The menu is enormous. It's got all the familiar Mexican items in various combinations and a few specialties. My thing of late, the thing I judge a Mexican restaurant by, are the birria tacos. In the case of Daniel's those come in the form of quesabirria tacos. (birria tacos with cheese, to make them even more decadent). On my first visit I ordered the quesabirria tacos and BOOM I was sold. The accompanying consomme, accented with cilantro and onion, was perfect.
On a subsequent visit I had the Chicken Nachos Don Juan. I'm not generally one for rice and black beans on nachos, being somewhat a nacho purest, but these were AMAZINGLY good!
The staff at Daniel's is constantly on the move. Whether it's clearing table, taking orders, or getting drink refills, the staff hustles!
While it's not normally the thing you talk about in a review, they also remodeled the bathrooms -- entirely. The bathrooms are now colorful and bright and, (if I may) fun! Very nicely decorated and themed to the restaurant perfectly.
I know there's a certain novelty of "Hey, let's check out the new place!" when a new restaurant opens, but honestly, I don't see this fervor dying down. Daniel's Little Mexico is some...
Read moreWow... So disappointed! We LOVE the Shepherdsville location! Anytime we're in that area we go there to eat! So we were so excited to have one closer to where we live. But wow... What a complete disappointment it was. The service was sub-par. We went on a Sunday around 2. We were surprised to see literally 1 other table with people at it. After the experience we now know why. The first issue was we asked for lemon in our water. The lemon I got literally was brown and smelled rotten. I asked for a new lemon and our server looked at the lemon and then me and sighed... Like I was being difficult. Who wants a rotted lemon and how did you now notice before you put it in someone's water. He also didn't replace the water. I ordered a mojito, it tasted like a sprite, there was barely anything that makes a mojito yummy in it. My Husband ordered a taco salad and requested not to have the avocado, the server asked him twice are you sure with a face of disbelief. The food was another disappointment. My husband's taco salad looked like a miniature version of the one he gets at the Shepherdsville location or any other restaurant. My steak in my street tacos was tough and had no flavor. The beans were gross and watery. The corn tortillas were oily and I didn't even eat them. We never had refills on our water, chips or salsa. Our server never checked on us. We had to signal for him to bring a check, because he was too busy talking to the gal at the counter. We LOVE the food, atmosphere, service in Shepardsville. I don't know what happened here. If you like the Shepherdsville location, I'd avoid...
Read moreBeen eating Mexican food in this town for over 50 years and tried this place for the first time Saturday the 25th...So,... very, very festive atmosphere, hostess and server very prompt and attentive initially... The jumbo frozen margarita was marginally average at best, our dishes were primarily chicken enchiladas and there was a real lack of chicken on all of the dishes and it was barely warm. One of our guest ordered the seafood enchiladas and he loved them. I will say this: the salsas that were served were unique in flavor and were not watered down and the refried beans were some of the best I've ever had, HOWEVER, the chips were some of the worst EVER - cold, stale, tasted like they came in a bag days earlier and just dumped on our plate. Kind of ruined the experience with the salsas but went well later on my enchiladas 😀 that lacked flavor and taste. When it was realized by the server that we weren't a big drinking table, the service dropped off considerably, none of us ever got our water glasses refilled or even asked if we wanted another beer or margarita,...and we did! Again, there were a lot of people having a lot of fun - if you're into flights of tequila and a very festive atmosphere this place is great, but, if you want good "authentic" Mexican food, priced reasonably, and based on my first experience,... I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place. I won't be coming back in that there are a lot of other places to try and go to....
