Read moreI went to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. There were about 15 of us. Most of the servers are Hispanic with very thick accents.
It was difficult for some of our party guests to understand and communicate with the server, but he was doing the best he could. The server wasn't exactly the friendliest, and you could see he was clearly frustrated.
I had to send my meal back 2 times. I got the wing platter. At first, I thought my wings tasted strange. I ordered the wings with Mango sauce. The sauce was off-putting, and my wings had a strange fishy taste. I asked for another order of wings, plain, thinking it was maybe the sauce. Absolutely not!!! My wings definitely tasted like fish!!! I asked the birthday girl to try one, and she immediately spit it out and said it tasted like fish also.
I asked to speak with management. I asked if the chicken and fish, (shrimp), were cooked in the same fryer grease? He said yes. I expressed to him my chicken tasted like fish and I wasn't satisfied. He proceeded to tell me I should have asked the server if they were cooked in the same grease and not ordered wings if it was a problem. I told him those details should have been placed on the menu and could potentially be deadly if someone has a seafood or shellfish allergy. He argued with me that it would cost too much money to put it on the menu, and next time to ask first.
I was offended that the manager decided to argue at this point that they were correct. I've worked in the food service industry for over 20 years, and I know you DON'T cook chicken and fish in the same grease! He snatched the wings off the table, never apologized, and walked off. I refused to pay for food I couldn't and didn't eat.
I would not recommend this restaurant, and I will never return...
Read moreThis was our third trip to this location. The first visit was excellent food, service and staff. Our second trip wasn’t the best experience. I order the same entree as I had on the first visit and talked my wife into ordering the same entree. Wow, how we were both so disappointed! The meals we order were nothing at all what we order and we discussed them in detail with the waitress. What I ordered on my first visit was a Wrapped Fajitas Quesadilla with Chicken, Belle Peppers (green & red) Onions covered with white cheese with both beans and rice on the side. When the food arrived at the table, it was a wrapped chicken with onions and. white cheese on top, No belle peppers at all and no beans or rice. The waitress really didn’t understand what was wrong, even after taking the order. Finally, she got the bean and rice but nothing was done about no belle peppers. She returned to the table saying she was sorry and said they would bring the correct order shortly. We waited and waited, finally she brought one order to the table in a to go bag! I really don’t think she understood from the get go what we had ordered! Plus, we had to pay for the first two meals that were totally wrong and the check to pay included the to go order! Upon arriving at home, my wife opened up the food to check it and guess what? Once again, this food was not even the same thing we were served in the restaurant! This time is was a wrap with steak (not chicken) and onions with white cheese, no belle peppers, but it did have rice and beans. We were really disappointed with the whole experience! Someone needs to do a lot of work with both the waitresses and kitchen help, need some training! We will really have to think about it before trying Gustavo’s on Hurstbourne again...
