Blimpie is ruler of the chain sandwich world! Haven't had Blimpie in a long time and discovered one when I was looking for a Subway. It's a gem of a find since there aren't that many of them anymore. But I was quickly reminded of why they are superior... First off, they slice the meat to order right in front of you. Then there's something about the way they shred their lettuce. Not a lot of fancy sauces, basically mayo or no mayo, and they cover the entire top slice of bread with a spatula! No squeeze bottles here. They generously pour on the oil and vinegar (my worst nightmare is a dry sandwich.)
Compared to Subway, where the meat is pre-sliced and vacuum packed at a distribution center somewhere, and the portions are cheap and carefully pre-measured (not so fresh) Blimpie is the obvious choice. Sure, if you want fancy bread and a complete salad on your sandwich, go ahead. To each his own.
The staff at this particular location are fast and friendly, real neighborhood folks. When you're hungry for a good old fashioned hearty hoagie, this...
Read moreThis is the BEST #1 BLIMPIE IN THE WORLD! Central Ave, Jersey City in the heights. Phenomenal quality with exceptional care when making a true Blimpie sub! A young lady (Gina I believe, forgive me if I'm wrong)made our 6ft. Long sub for a celebration (2nd time this year) and my guests raved over where I got the sandwich from and how awesome it was to have that classic unmistakable, undeniable taste as a 6ft Hero! Everytime I visit here, they always go above and beyond no matter what I purchase. Fresh bread always, produce is always fresh cut, clean and well kept, while the meats and cheeses are top notch. I've been visiting this place for over 25 years because my Mom used to bring me here as a child. They never loose the touch. Keep up the great work! I must pass atleast 10 Blimpie bases on the way here, I live in Union, N.J. and only patron this establishment because of their consistent effort to serve quality and great service. Those employees should be proud...
Read moreThis Blimpie used to be the best Blimpie ever, because its owner didn't have to follow franchise rules like other blimpies since they were one of the original stores. The Blimpie best used to be my favorite sandwich but the quality has gone down significantly over the years. They no longer use thuman's meat but opt for the cheaper Dietz and Watson meats, the purdue turkey is flavorless and gellatinous almost. They do use quality cheeses (land o lakes, finlandia, etc) still but the cheapness of the meat makes the sandwich inedible. Frankly at this point I can only stomach their salami because the other meats are bland and cheap quality stuff you find at corner stores. The owner is cheap and penny pinches instead of giving people quality food and even though theres still the Blimpie nastalgia, to me it's not worth the money you spend for a sub par sandwich. You can get a high quality fresh sandwich on the same street for cheaper than the price of a whole BB which is...
