Choc O Pain French Bakery & Café – A Slice of Paris in New Jersey

If you’re craving a taste of France without hopping on a plane, Choc O Pain delivers an authentic experience across its Jersey City and Hoboken locations. Each café offers its own personality while staying true to the brand’s commitment to quality, tradition, and its atmosphere is cozy charming the moment you walk in the door.

📍 330-332 Palisade Avenue – Jersey City Heights

This location is tucked into the Heights with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The croissants which are one of my favorites consistently are praised for their buttery layers and delicate sweetness, while the Quiche Lorraine standouts for brunch lovers. In addition to your choice of favorites, enjoy a spread from edge to edge over your pastry choice with Chef Rene Hewitt's Jams available at all locations. The warm feeling is relaxed, with indoor and outdoor seating is perfect for remote work or catching up with friends.

📍 530 Jersey Avenue – JC Downtown

The downtown Choc O Pain café is a lively haven for both locals and visitors, bustling with energy and charm. Known for its crisp and flavorful vegan croissants, the bakery offers a menu that balances tradition with thoughtful variety. From seasonal specialties to hearty sandwiches and smooth Drip Coffee (Café Américain), it’s a top choice for a leisurely breakfast or light lunch.

I find the prices are reasonable, especially given the evident care baked into every bite. The staff’s cheerful demeanor and genuine hospitality make the experience all the more memorable. Walking through the door already feels like you’ve made the right choice.

📍 157 1st Street – Hoboken

The Hoboken location radiates with rustic décor and genuinely friendly service. It’s a favorite for chocolate croissants, and a local hidden gem for indulging in the Maline — a personal favorite that balances richness and delicate finesse. It’s worth your time to bring a friend for brunch and soak in the atmosphere.

Step outside and you’ll discover a neighborhood ritual — a shared warmth between staff and regulars that turns each visit into a connection, not just a transaction. This isn’t just where you get great pastry. It’s where you get remembered.

Whether you're standing in the sun-dappled charm of their Hoboken corner or cozying up at the Jersey City Heights café, each space whispers sophistication through its rustic wood details, graceful pastry arrangements, and the scent of freshly baked buttery layers. Choc O Pain isn’t just about croissants—it’s about creating a sensory experience that feels artful and intentional.

Rating 1-10

The pastries seem sculpted with pride, the coffee served with care, and the ambiance invites you to linger just a bit longer with the staff. It's French baking elevated into a moment of indulgence. With this, ChocOPain rightfully deserves a 10 because the atmosphere grabs you, the staff is friendly, the pastries make you come back for more, and more. Go ahead a...

Bad experience! 2 assistants tried to fool me. I ordered only one chocopain bread and asked for warm up and headed to cashier. The first assisant helped me warm it up and put it in bag. Then she hanged over the bag to the assistant at the cashier and said two chocopain. I heard and felt weird but said nothing. The one at the cashier pick the bag and placed in front of me, and said two chocopain, 8 dollars (4 each) and charged me so in the cashier. Then I asked: Two? She confirmed:Yes, two. I lift the bag and said: Just one! And she modified the money real quick to 4. I just couldn't believe that. How could that even happened? The first one received my order and put it in herself, but she told two when hanging over? She could feel the weight in bag! She works there and she should easily know the difference of one and two. Same for the one at cashier who put the bag in front of me. She could felt the weight even though she didn't actually look into the bag. She later modifying the money real quick was another prove. This must not be the first time they did so. They just thought me as easy money and played such a poor trick! I have been there several times caz my friends recommend and the bread I gave a try there was good, but now no...

I have been a customer for a while now and very regularly, I order the same item that is marked available on the website, I place my order and I receive a call that it’s unavailable. Today, another time, I’m waiting for my delivery, the order is marked “completed” on the website and after over an hour, I try calling to understand what the status is. After 4 tries, someone finally picks up the phone to tell me that they cancelled the order as nothing was available in my order and that the driver said he would call me. First, he never did but most importantly, why is it for the driver to call me and not the store employees when they realized that they couldn’t fulfill the order and why was it marked completed? I’m told I’ll get a refund, except that I have never been actually refunded before for cancelled orders. This time I won’t let it fly. I don’t know how they manage their business and multiple branches but their employees clearly don’t...

Awesome people and food. Jessa runs a tight operation and they get you in and out quickly. My favs: the soups are amazing, from lentil, zucchini, black bean, their secret is they food process so that it is less brothy and more thick. The seasonal sandwiches, they change are excellent, hummus with avocado and cucumber on focaccia. And huge as well. Their bread is next level and looks sexy as my daughter says. All their baked goods from the flourless chocolate cake to the croissants are stand outs. NOTE update 05/23/23 I’m a local and I have no idea what’s going on here but the soup is gone,. The people working can’t explain it. I tried a few sandwiches but they barely had anything in them. I last tried the vegan and Paying $10 for a good roll is ridiculous. I’ve had many of their items in the past and the experience was nothing like this?
