The service was perfect, attentive and yet not constantly checking back. Our server was really nice, friendly and pleasant, which made the experience that much better. We sat outside late, on Friday evening and the kitchen was still open which was savior because we were both hungry. The menu item selection has good variation. There were also wallet friendly appetizers and most all of the meals were priced reasonably around $10-15 or 20. They have seafood options like tuna and lobster or seafood salad or pasta. We stuck to drinks and an appetizer with a side of sweet potato fries which were fresh, hot and tasted great! Some of the best I've had. The BBQ chicken quesadilla was hot, large and tasted better than I expected. The chicken inside was tender and tasty. You can tell the kitchen uses quality ingredients. All around good and I will be back to try some of the full meals that looked and sounded delicious! Also, the bar area was vibrant with color, live music, and people. It looked both busy and fun.
The only downfall was the smell of smoke. We sat out front and some of the customers had lit cigarettes, but thankfully this occurred toward when we were getting ready to leave. And one oddity was that there was a bathroom attendant in the ladies room, unexpected. The sink & counter was spotlessly clean (probably thanks to her, what a sweet woman) but inside the stalls were not! I am not sure what to think about there being an attendant. She may have been the only person of color (that I saw while I was there) employed. That made me feel a bit uncomfortable towards the company and her low position of employment. Nonetheless, the service was all around great and I would...
Read moreI almost never leave any reviews that are not one star or five stars. i'm leaving a three star review because the food here is pretty good and the location and atmosphere is great, but the prices are just way too high. The prices were raised much too quickly and much too high in the early days of the inflation, and they never came back down.you can go and get a bowl of rice with some moderately OK fish on the top, and it's like $36. You can get a much better fish entrée at Food Shack for less money. I realize this is not a location where you would expect a discount Restaurant, but certainly you don't expect to pay waterfront pricing. I think this is reflected by the fact that the dining area is empty most of the time these days. Our experience this last time was no different than anytime before, but the reality is that you just don't get your moneys worth. Another example is the chica chica finger salad (chicken strip salad); this used to be like $12 and terrific, now it's not even on the menu but if you get it it costs much more and the quality is not as great. I think what I'm trying to say is this place has somehow experienced inflation at a rate 2 to 3X whatever everybody else has.
The one exception is stopping by for a drink on food truck Friday, etc. IOW, the bar is perfectly fine, probably a 4.5 out of 5. But I think the Restaurant needs to mix it up and get some better menu options and...
Read moreDisappointing experience at Jumby Bay recently. I was seated at the far end of the bar, where there’s one ideal TV for watching sports. Myself and a few others had been watching a close NBA playoff game from the beginning. With just 3 minutes left in a competitive Game 6, a man walked in, announced he had bet on the hockey game, and told the bartender, clearly a friend—to change the channel.
Without asking or acknowledging we’d been watching the basketball game the whole time, she immediately switched it to hockey. The man shrugged and said “the game’s already over,” as if that justified dismissing the rest of us.
Beyond that, service was lackluster. I was acknowledged when I first sat down but then ignored until the gentleman next to me flagged someone down to remind the staff I was still waiting. When I finally placed my order, the bartender forgot the side that I ordered with my wings, and never followed up.
There are dozens of TVs in the bar and plenty of room for multiple games. Prioritizing a friend’s bet over the experience of existing customers really soured the visit. Basic courtesy and consistency in service were definitely lacking.
Next time, I’ll take my business to a sports bar that values all its guests—not just the ones with inside...
