I love Crux Coffee Roasters. I frequently visit Crux and a couple of other coffee shops when I am intentionally building friendships. I only go to certain coffee shops for specific reasons. I have an espresso machine and a high-end grinder at home. Therefore, I only go to a coffee shop if I am spending time with someone and if the shop has these qualities:
Yummy pastries. -Coffee on pair with what I can make at home or better. -Freshly roasted coffee beans (Single origin or blends) that taste great. -Excellent customer service. -Great atmosphere to spend time with someone.
It is notable to mention that my drink of choice is espresso or espresso drinks. I tend to not add anything to my drinks except milk. You can tell a good shop based on how their espresso, cold brew, or pour-over tastes when it doesn't have sugar in it. A lot of shops have garbage coffee but get by with their sugary drinks. With that being said, Crux has good coffee. I cannot give my opinion on the pour-over. But I can say we have enjoyed their lattes, cold brew, and acai bowls. I just recently bought some roasted coffee beans from them. I went home, through them in my Niche Zero grinder, and made myself a delicious cortado. The drink was amazing, everything I love about a single-origin Guatemalan. I was very happy with their beans. The price and amount of the bag will make it worth buying from them in the future. I was looking for a local roaster that would make me want to cancel my coffee bean subscription service. Crux gave me a reason to cancel!
Summary: I would say crux is a great coffee shop. I love their acai bowls and their coffee beans. They support the troops (which is rare for coffee shops), its in a great location, and great staff. Supporting the troops makes me happy to give them my money! We will continue to meet here to build...
Read moreI pass by crux almost daily since i live in town center. I really wanted to love this place because it would be so convenient for me but my recent experiences have been disappointing.
two weeks ago, I ordered food, and when the cashier asked if it was for here or to go, I said "for here." I also told the cashier I’d be sitting right outside because I had a meeting with a client. 20 minutes into my client meeting I went inside to check on my food, and it was just sitting on the counter—cold—while the employees were standing around talking. I figured they’d bring it out to me since I had mentioned where I’d be. Maybe my expectations were too high, but shouldn’t they at least confirm who the food is for?
Then today, I was walking my dog in Abacoa and decided to give it another shot. I was hungry, so I had my wife go in to grab me a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel while i watched my dog outside. Unfortunately, the eggs were cold, and it was obvious they had just slapped some pre-made eggs on a bagel—it wasn’t made fresh at all.
I’m really disappointed because I’d love to support a local spot and visit Crux more often, but the food and service need improvement. At this point, I think I’ll stick to Bagel Boys for breakfast.
On the bright side, my wife loves their coffee, so not everything is bad! I just wish the food and service matched the quality of the coffee. Hopefully, they can make some...
Read moreI've been frequenting Crux for the past year and have never failed to be impressed by both their coffee and the outstanding quality of service. The owners, Dan and Vicki, are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their art (and let's be honest, making a great coffee is an art). Other members of the staff are just as nice; I've only had good experiences with everyone who works there. The atmosphere of the shop is clean and welcoming, which is greatly appreciated by both me and (I'm sure) the many people who, whenever I visit, are taking advantage of the shop's free wifi and are studying or doing work. The prices are more than reasonable, especially given the location and the quality of the products, and their student discount comes in handy considering I attend college right across the street. The food is also excellent, with a wide selection of pastries, baked goods, and other items ( including my personal favorite, the Acai bowls.) I would recommend Crux to anyone in the area looking for a good cup of coffee, a snack, or a place to relax and do work - you will not be...
