The Hangar — Restaurant in Kalamazoo Charter Township

I’ve lived in Kalamazoo County my whole life and I can honestly say Hangar is one of the most underrated bars here.

Food: Simple and affordable! With a lot of weekly drink and food specials. One of the only bars in Kalamazoo that has drink specials on weekends. BEST CHICKEN TENDERS IN THE WORLD! And I am a chicken tender connoisseur. Most of their food is simple traditional bar food. But it all tastes great and is cheap. Popcorn is free!!

Service: The waitresses are all phenomenal. Very attentive and great customer service.

Atmosphere: If you’re looking for something fancy or rowdy this ain’t it. Gave the atmosphere 4 stars. Hangar is a simple and affordable dive bar but can be boring. I think this a great place for people who are past the college bar phase but still want to have a good time out. They have TouchTunes so you can choose your own music. I’ve noticed Country is the Genre of choice for alot of regular's here. They have a lot of TVs for watching games. It’s very clean and in a safe part of town.

Overview: Not with the price and expect to wait (for what? I don't know. It was super slow, and it took ages...)

Cleanliness: Restaurant—I saw good table cleaning between customers.

Bathroom: less than "clean", and SO SO COLD (cider than outdoors in mid-March). Also all the stall doors were closed, making it appear as if they were occupied, which they weren't.

Service: I felt like we were wearing our invisibility cloaks... W A I T W A I T W-A-I-T... How many ways can I attempt to notify the waitress that we're ready to order before she realizes it?... placed menus at edge of the table (so it's clear we're no longer looking at them, signaling we've made our minds up), then subtly raising menus to get her attention, then blatantly waving menus, then I finally got up and went to the waitress station and tried to get her attention, finally having another waitress let her know I was there, and then instead of saying sorry and that she could take our order right then, she says she'll be 'right over'. And the draft list is on the back wall. You have to go look at it. They can't tell you what they've got...

I left Kalamazoo early last year. I heard this place burned down shortly after that, so when I came back to town today I was glad to see they were back in business and I stopped in with a friend because I loved going there after work. They still had Guinness on tap, which is why I'm giving two stars, but the menu wasn't as good as it used to be, one of our apps came out still frozen and the other came out after the entrees. One of those entrees was incredibly overcooked, the other was a little too cold in the middle for me to be convinced that it wasn't just microwaved. Both of us ordered the same modification to our side, which we were told was an option, and neither of us received it even though we were charged for it. We were told that they had just opened back up yesterday, but I'm wishing I hadn't noticed that they were open so I could have been left with my good memories of this place.
