As far as quality Benny's is an excellent slice and this has the same quality as the Benny's in NC/VA. Mostly went to the one in Chapel Hill but went to about 4-5 others in my travels in the southeast. This one just opened and the disorganization around that is apparent. First day we went about a week after opening and there were so many staff standing around doing nothing. Far more than you'd see at Chapel Hill 2 am on a bar night yet no where near as productive. The hours on their website and door are not consistent with reality. It's 11:43p on a Saturday and I am outside of it closed, dark, with all of the stools up (supposedly open until 3a). Their phone voicemail goes straight to a full voicemail. C'mon, keep your hours updated at the very least, that is pathetic. Otherwise this is a great establishment. Regardless of my frustration we are still planning on patronizing this Benny's, the pizza is that good.
Update They did update their hours, nice to see that response. There are still little things that could be improved. I call in ahead of time, but people who walk in looking for a slice end up waiting a bit. Considering the whole emphasis on the "Virginia slice", it's a little odd that slices aren't ready to go. I imagine it is related to the volume and if we do go "back to normal" in the summer time when the downtown is the busiest they will be more timely. It sucks seeing people leave because they have to wait 30 minutes for a slice - I want y'all to last!
Another update...can't call in slices...
Read moreTerrible customer service!! My first time visiting I ordered two slices of 🍕 very excited to try this place. I needed them as a to go since I was visiting. Once I received the order it was in two paper bags. I politely asked for a box and was told, "No, sorry we only give boxes to people who order three slices!". I said okay, "I need a box because my car was just cleaned", and I didn't want the oversized greasy pieces laying on the floor. The workers solution without saying a word was to turn around and then tried to hand me a stack of napkins. I was in disbelief, as I easily would have even went as far to purchase another slice for the box. Luckily another patron who was eating there with his kids interjected and said I could use his box which I did!!! It's all about customer service and I was left unfortunately with a bad taste in my mouth. On top of that with the 15-20 min wait I was the only customer to tip them after paying $4...I'm sure that could have...
Read moreOk, I've heard a lot about this place. A few people I know raved about it, so I know some might be offended by this, but I have to be honest. I was NOT impressed at all! The pizza was not good. It was just plain and boring. The atmosphere was drab, and the service was average "millennial" service at best. No enthusiasm what-so-ever. The slice didn't even look appetizing (see picture). I had to really search for the cheese! Not to mention, I scrapped my ankle on the piece of metal they have sticking out from their heavy, heavy door. Drew blood and everything, and the young guy's response was, "Oh. Ok, I'll take a look at it." I guess those who like it will return, but I won't. It just wasn't good. I even had my 20-something son try it, just to not be biased, and his reaction was "blah...". And it has nothing to do with the fact that I grew up in Chicago. Good pizza is good pizza, and bad pizza is...
