Second time trying Towel City Tavern. Our first visit was just for a drink. My wife and our friend loved their drinks, however, for me it was the most bitter Old Fashioned I have experienced. This time around, we decided to order off the food menu. Never again. I ordered the Tavern Burger, and my wife simply ordered the White Slaw and the Buttered Turnips. WOW. The buttered turnips were completely burned, most pieces on at least 3 sides. Not too mention, they tasted like the cap fell off the salt shaker. Completely inedible. The White coleslaw was actually good if you like German Potato salad. Never had coleslaw that tasted completely like potato salad with cabbage as a substitute for the potato. The fries. OMG. If you like chili powder seasoning, and nothing else, these fries are definitely for you. I thought I was in the middle of a chili cook off minus the beans, liquid and meat. Then the burger. It was actually pretty good as a combination. However. The patty was just as salty as the turnips. The fried onion by itself tastes like we were eating a paper towel used to soak up a grease spill, and the bun was a simple plain store bought bun. Nothing great for $17. I have included some photos, but unfortunately they took away the turnips before we were able to get a picture. The managers response was "to each their own". As we were walking out and they knew I was writing a review, I was about to read it to my wife, who tried to stop me because the chef was walking out behind us. I stated that I didn't care because it was my review. As the chef walked past me, he responded saying "I don't care either ". It's very difficult to have a successful business with employees that "Don't Care". Hope you enjoy the review, and a word of advice. Save your money. McDonalds can blow them away with a happy meal.

We have eaten here numerous times since they opened. It has steadily declined in quality and experience each time. Last night we decided to give it one more shot since we really really want to see Towel City succeed! I ordered the salmon which I've gotten several times before. Clearly they have made some changes. The $25 salmon was thin, dry and rather tasteless. It's now called "lemon pepper" and evidently they no longer smoke it because there was zero smoke flavor. Isn't this a smokehouse? The carrots used to be really flavorful roasted carrots. Now they are evidently baby carrots cooked in butter. Very bland and underwhelming. The sweet potatoes were decent although they were served luke warm. It was a Wednesday night so I was able to enjoy a 50% off glass of wine to accompany my meal. Unfortunately two of the gnats constantly buzzing around our table ended up in my glass before I could finish it. It pains us to see this restaurant with such an awesome location and amazing potential to continue to decline in quality, value and experience. I really hope they can make some major changes to turn this place around. We desperately need restaurants in the area. Unless major improvements happen, we won't be back. *Our server Anna S was new and did a fine job.

We had the worst experience at this establishment and honestly feel others should choose anywhere else to eat but here. While it is a new place, it was a holiday and the game was taking place- there was no excuse for how our evening evolved. (I am also thinking the reviews currently on this restaurant have to be from family & family friends of the owners or managers because that appeared to be all that got served at this place) Hostess said 45 min wait, no problem- we waited an hour. Not a big deal/ we go to check in and the app said 0 tables were ahead of us- A table of 4 walked in (we were also a table of 4) and they got seated… Again not a big deal until when we finally sat we realized these were clearly friends of the owners or someone who worked there. They were getting appetizers that were marked sold out on the menu brought to their table along with many other appetizers very loudly delivered with ā€œthese are compliments from the man behind the barā€ Not the end of the world if we were also getting served. My husband ordered a tea, I had a coke and my son had a lemonade. We ordered deviled eggs as an appetizer and asked if there were any kids items. Waitress said no and went on to make our drinks- We get them and about 25 minutes go by before our deviled eggs were walked all around the restaraunt before the girl asked the lady at the hostess stand what table they belong to. Again, not the end of the world except at this point when they were brought all disheveled on our plate, our waitress had not been back to our table yet to take our order, or ever came to ask how the appetizer was.

My husband said maybe the kitchen is backed up and she can’t take orders right now. We were trying to be as understanding as possible until the table of 2 got sat beside us & had already received their drinks and gotten their order taken. (Also noticed the manager or owner? Even went up to our waitress to talk to her while she was taking this tables order? Extremely unprofessional)

Another manager cleaned up a table in front of us, looked at our table and noticed we were visibly frustrated + empty drinks. I thought maybe he was going to get our waitress since he didn’t stop to see if we were okay, but no! Nothing -

After 45 minutes of sitting with empty drinks our waitress finally comes to the table with a ā€œyall good?ā€ I said.. mam, we have not had drinks in a while and you still have not taken our order?

Her response was the worst part with ā€œoh you want to order something?ā€ I said ā€œI am sorry, what?ā€ She said I apologize I did not know. We said we are done here, please send us the bill for the drinks and appetizer and she said not to worry about it. That’s fine but I have never sat at a restaurant, ordered soft drinks and an appetizer and have the waitress never come back for refills or asked how it was or if we needed anything else? But still serve the tables around you??

I had to go into detail about the entire time we were at this place because it was actually ridiculous and I’m thinking if you aren’t a family friend or something of this place, you will be disrespected and not served. We left after wasting 2 hours to try to eat here and I’m still appalled at her interaction coming to our table 45 minutes later. No dinner Order even taken. Past disappointing and we will not be back.

We are locals in this area, actually visit several times weekly to the downtown Kannapolis area and will choose to still eat at Chophouse across the street which has amazing service- as it should serving to...

I want to start by saying that our first experience at this restaurant was wonderful! This second trip out however on Saturday March 22nd was not as good. I brought company from out of town and the service was slow, waitress didn't come to our table for 10 minutes, but it was a nice day and we sat outside so we talked. Then when our waitress did come we ordered drinks. They took quite a while before they finally got to our table. In the meantime we had an infant in a high chair but the waist strap snap was broken. We consulted the front maitre d and he was not very helpful. So we spoke with the manager and she informed us there were no more chairs readyly available there were only three in use at the time. We ordered our food, and one plate we ordered the broccoli for an up charge of $2, for my grandson. The broccoli was so firm that you could not break it. You had to cut it with a steak knife so it was unacceptable for the baby to chew on. We spoke with the waitress and she said she would give us fries (which usually come with it but we took the upcharge broccoli). They never removed the plate of broccoli It sat there as did most the rest of our used plate ware and cups as we finished. There was no bussing at the table, even the table next to us, after the people left, their empty beer cans and plastic cups blew over on the table, rolled around for a few minutes, and then fell on the ground. I ordered another beer since we were waiting, that again took some time to come out. When it did the waitress took it with two other beers to another table and then was looking around for where that one extra beer might go. I got her attention and she brought it to me.

All in all the food was good, (except the broccoli obviously) the beer was good, being able to sit outside at a ballpark is always good on a sunny day even though it was a bit breezy. I said in the beginning our first experience there was excellent, but this experience lacked any professionalism on the staff. We asked about them comping the $2 charge for the broccoli that was inedible but that was not to be had either. I do understand that slow service can be caused by the bartender, or the chef or other circumstances, but this restaurant was not very crowded and as I said previously the professionalism just...

We were greeted and seated quickly. It was a Monday and only one other table was there and our server, Sophia, introduced herself immediately. The open, industrial space made it difficult to hear her even in a fairly empty room. However she was patient and sweet while always professional. She knew the menu and helped us along confirming what we ordered and explaining things. Got us a drink right away. To continue on service she wasn’t hovering but readily available even with a hand wave at a distance while she waited at the kitchen window for another table’s food. Welp my husband wanted barbecue while he was here in NC. I tried to tell him that NC Barbecue was pulled pork but he wanted brisket. While the brisket was flavorful with a not overpowering smoke or season, the meat, was very dry. Sadly I’m on a bit of a restricted diet but was thrilled for the grilled broccolini and carrots. If that broccolini was grilled I’d be very surprised. It was very crunchy but definitely needed more time. Grilled carrots are baby carrots from the bag, also not cooked. And I’m not a person who likes mushy veggies but there is a wide gap between these and adequately cooked. Also, baby carrots in a bag? Fresh carrots should be plentiful at this time of year. My sister had a pork chop and they got that perfect I must say. My brother in law enjoyed his salmon. For dessert they ordered the cheesecake which they said was not overly sweet and had a good creamy texture. Hush puppies are at the table when you arrive and they were ok. Hot out of the cooker would have been better. Overall a pleasant experience as drinks were well made and service was excellent. Food is a bit sketchy for me and my husband. As this place has recently opened I hope that they work out the few missteps we had. It’s a great addition to the revitalization of Kannapolis and I...
